A Light in the Dark

One of Rose's old friends dies suddenly and the Doctor comforts her.

Doctor's POV:

Rose and I had both had an amazing day with each other. We visited a planet called New Barcelona, a re-make of the original planet Barcelona after it died. That day was perfect. . . until we went back to Jackie's flat. We walked in and heard Jackie crying.

"Mum!" Rose said as she dropped the alien things she brought for her mother on the ground, rushing to help her. She held her mum in her arms.

"Mum, what's wrong? What happened?!" Rose frantically asked. I walked up behind Jackie and place my hand on her back to try and comfort her.

"Your friend Caitlyn, Rose." Jackie said between sobs. Rose's face was quickly turning concerned.

"What about her, mum?" She asked frantically.

"She got hit by a car. A hit and run, just like your dad. Rose, she didn't make it!" Said Jackie, letting her sobs break loose. Rose let go of her mother slowly. A single manly tear (A/N reference!) raced down her face and she ran from the room.

"Jackie I gotta go help her." I said, pointing over my shoulder in the direction that Rose went.

"Go." Jackie whispered. I nodded and ran to the TARDIS as fast as I could. I entered and I heard her running to her room, and a moment later I heard her door slam. I quickly ran to her room and gently opened the door. I heard her muffled cries coming from her bed, so I closed the door and softly walked over to her. I toed off my shoes, took off my tie, coat, and my jacket. I crawled into her be with her and she immediately scooted close to me and began to cuddle. She was still crying on me, but I didn't mind. I just held her in my arms and let her cry it all out. After she finished, I moved so I could see her face.

"Rose, if you don't mind me asking, who's Caitlyn?" I asked her, gently rubbing her back. Another tear fell down her face and I wiped it away with my free thumb.

"When I was 16, I dropped out of high school and went to go live with my boyfriend, Jimmy Stone. He wasn't as great as I had thought. He abused me and he. . . he raped me too. So my mum found out and ratted on him and he got sent to prison. Caitlyn found me behind an alley cryin' my eyes out and about to kill myself. She talked me out of it and she basically saved my life. We became great friends and we hung out all the time. But we had to go our separate ways, and I haven't seen her in three years. And now she's gone." Rose said, several single tears making their way onto my shirt. I held her tighter.

"Here's how I see it, Rose. You had an amazing year with an amazing person that did amazing things. You gotta hold onto that year and make it a shining memory that you can flip on whenever it gets dark around you. Remember her and she won't die. She'll live on in your mind. And that's ok. Because even if you can't see her, I'm sure she's always gonna be there with you. So keep your chin up, and remember." I told her, planting a small kiss on her forehead.

"Thank you, Doctor." She said with a yawn. "Say, I'm rather knackered. Do you mind if I fall asleep on you?" She asked me.

"No, not at all." I said, and she let her head fall onto my now dry shirt (thank you TARDIS) and fell asleep.

"I love you, my pink and yellow girl." I whispered.

"I know." I heard her mumble. I smiled, and that was the beginning of something wonderful.

Hi Time Peepsles! I know it's short but I wanted to give you all something and I really liked this idea that one of my friends gave me so I made a little fic! So yeah, that's basically it. Oh, and happy late Leap Year Day!
