There’s only one place to go for me, the lake. The lake is my mother, my father, my place to hide. The only place where I can be myself. In front of the lake I collapse and make myself as tiny as possible. I cry, tears won’t stop flowing. I don’t want this anymore! Those stupid people make me feel miserable. Who cares if I die? No one! ‘Annie?’ Someone whispers from behind. It’s Finnick! No! He can’t see me like this. ‘Go away Finnick!’ I scream through my tears. I feel a hand on my back. ‘No. I won’t leave you alone.’ He tells me with a calm voice. ‘Just let me die here. I have nothing to live for!’ I feel like I’m drowning in my tears. Then Finnick pulls me in his arms. ‘I will never let you die.’ He says while he holds me tight. ‘Why not? I’m useless, no one likes me, in fact, everyone hates me. I can’t even afford food and I’m starving right now! I’m worthless.’ I say crying even harder. ‘That’s not true! I like you Annie. I like you!’ He says to me while he starts to wipe some tears of my face. ‘You what…?’ I ask confused. Like me? How can anyone ever like me? ‘Come on, get up, we don’t want you to get soaked.’ He says to me. Soaked? I didn’t even realize it was still raining. He pulls me up and carries me. I doubt for a second but then I put my arms around his neck. He starts to walk and I feel weird, Finnick Odair carries me. He carries me and said he likes me. This can’t be true, no one can like me. I try to control my breath and calm myself down a bit. My head turns to the right and I see where we are going… Finnick’s house. My heart starts pounding a bit harder. He enters his house, still carrying me. Luckily no one is home, otherwise they would have seen a soaked crying girl. There’s a big chair in the room and Finnick lays me down in it. ‘Hang on.’ He says while he leaves the room and a few seconds later he comes back with a blanket. He lays the blanket over me and I look at him, how could he do something like this? ‘Why Finnick? Why do you do this?’ I ask him almost whispering. ‘Because I want you to be happy.’ He says honestly. I don’t know what to say or how to react. ‘Annie, I’m going to cook the fish, wait here okay?’ He says to me. I nod and see him leave the room.
I stare at the ceiling of Finnick’s house. I still can’t believe I’m here. The house is beautiful compared with mine. Everything looks so nice and is taken care of. At my house everything’s broken. ‘Fish is ready!’ Finnick says while he enters the room again. I smile at him and almost faint when I even smell the fish. Food. I haven’t had food in 2 days. ‘Here.’ He says while he hands me a half fish. I immediately start eating, faster and faster! The fish is gone in one minute. ‘Thank you. Thank you so much!’ I say feeling a bit better already. ‘It was delicious.’ I say grateful. He smiles and eats the last bit of his fish. ‘Annie, will you promise me something?’ He asks me looking me in the eyes. ‘Of course.’
‘Don’t you ever, ever, ever try to kill yourself again.’
‘I won’t.’
