"I thought the war ended years ago!" Clary exclaimed as she paced around in her living room. Jace sat calmy on the couch in deep thought.
"As I assumed the same thing Clary, but some things are never as they appear," he finally said, breaking out of his silence. He then eased back into the couch and let out a deep sigh, one he had been holding in for a long time now. His eyes then traveled to the two smaller figures across the room playing with their toys in the corner. Clary's eyes meet on the two children that had Jace's attention.
"They are lucky to be too young to have to worry about this war going on" she said.
"Yes they are," he agreed. "I think they need to keep that security. However they won't keep it if they stay around us." Clary's eyes grew wide with astonishment at what her husband was suggesting.
"Jace you can't seriously mean-"
"You and I both know they will end up being captured or killed if they stay anywhere near us Clarissa!" He calmed down at the sight of his wife's tears. He finally wrapped his arms around her and attempted to comfort her.
"Clary, this is something I wish would never have to be considered." Jace continued on and her sobs grew quieter. "They are my children too and as their parents we have to protect them. It's the only way they will ever have a future. One day perhaps we will become a family again."
"One day this war will end," Clary said hoarsely. "Then we will never have to worry about our family being in pieces." The couple continued to watch their children play without the knowledge of what was to come.
