I came out of the bathroom and grabbed my headset. I turned to tell Toby I was heading home but I froze. She was pressed against him, and their lips were inches apart.
"Toby?" I said, not believing my eyes.
He looked over at me. "Jacie, it's not what it looks like," he said, trying to wriggle his way out of her grasp.
I ran back to my apartment and slammed the door, tears running down my cheeks. I locked the door and sat on my bed with a box of tissues. I needed comfort, but the closest friend was Toby, so I called the only person I knew could comfort me. I waited for a while, until there was a knock on the door. I peeped through the peep hole and opened the door. Austin was standing there with his arms out wide. I hugged him and let him in, shutting the door and locking it. I flopped onto my bed next to him and leaned against him. He held me, and it felt nice to consult him as a friend. He had cooled off, and we were friends again.
"What's wrong?" he asked.
"Toby was with another woman, and she was going to kiss him," I said miserably.
He kissed the top of my head and gave me a squeeze. "Describe exactly what happened," he said.
I explained everything and waited as he sat in thought. "Have you considered the fact that maybe she forced herself upon him?" he suggested.
I shook my head and wiped my eyes. "Think about it," he said.
There was a knock at the door. "Jacie, it's me. Please, I'm sorry. Please, open up," Toby's muffled voice said.
I looked at Austin, and he gestured for me to answer. I got up and unlocked the door, cracking it open. Toby was waiting, leaning against the doorframe. I opened the door a little wider.
"Jacie, it wasn't how it looked. Let me in and I'll explain it," he pleaded.
I let him in and closed the door. He froze when he saw Austin sitting on my bed.
"Don't worry, we're just friends," he assured Toby. Toby nodded and sat down.
"I'll leave now," Austin said, getting up and leaving.
Toby turned and faced me, taking my hands in his. "Jacie, what happened was I was getting her a drink when she pinned me to the counter. She said she was in love with me and tried to kiss me, but all I wanted was to get away. There is nothing between me and that woman. I love you," he said.
I hugged him and pecked him on the cheek. "I believe you," I said, relieved.
He kissed my forehead and swept me up, cradling me. "What are you doing?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.
He didn't answer, carrying me into his apartment. He carried me into the kitchen and set me on the counter. He got down two mugs and poured coffee. God he loved his coffee. We drank our coffee, seeing who could get the other one to spit-take first.
"Toby, I haven't been honest," I said.
He sipped his coffee and raised his eyebrows. "I'm pregnant from when I was with Austin," I said seriously.
He almost spit coffee all over the place, but he swallowed it.
"Nice try, but that won't work," he said. I smiled and sipped my coffee.
"Hey Jacie, is it okay if I train Anigo to ride around on Gryphon?" he asked.
I spit coffee all over myself, laughing my head off.
"Yes, I win!" he shouted, setting down his mug and pumping his fists into the air.
I smiled and grabbed some paper towels, drying myself off. He went into his room and came back out with a shirt. He tossed it at me.
"I won't look," he promised, turning his back to me.
I quickly changed shirts and threw the dirty one at him to let him know it was okay. He smiled and ran his hand through his hair. I put my arms around his neck and smiled. He leaned closer and kissed me sweetly. His lips tasted like coffee. We started to kiss more passionately, and he pressed his body into mine.
He slipped his tongue into my mouth and groaned as I tangled my fingers in his hair. He lifted me off of the counter and set me on the couch. I straddled him and pressed my body against his. He started pressing against me, trying to get me to lay back. We broke apart when we heard a door click. Gabe was standing in the doorway looking at us. I looked down and blushed. Damnit.
"S-s-sorry, I-I didn't know," he apologized, just as embarrassed as us. Talk about awkward.
"It's fine," Toby said.
Gabe backed out into the hall. "I'll just, um, I'm gonna go shopping for some new jackets," he stuttered, closing the door.
I looked up at Toby, a questioning look on my face.
"So, um, wanna watch a movie?" I offered.
He nodded and got up. Damn you, Gabe. You just had to fucking walk in. I sat up on the couch as Toby scanned through movies. He held up a favorite of mine, Monty Python and The Quest For The Holy Grail. I had accidentally left it here. He popped it in and sat next to me. They even made the credits funny. I leaned against him as I watched. We mocked our favorite parts as we watched. We were laughing so hard we were crying by the end. I loved that movie. We were interrupted by Gabe opening the door.
"You done having sex yet?" he asked.
Mother-truckin' asshole.
