I slammed the door and plopped down on my bed. I couldn't believe my dad. He's always been like this when it came to careers. We usually get along just fine, but he's always hounding me on my career choice. I hated it. I could usually deal with it, but tonight he was wailing on Toby too. That, I could not accept.
I sat for hours, thinking over the argument. I know he just wanted the best for his little girl, but I wasn't so little anymore. I just wanted to have fun with the job I chose. I didn't expect to make videos as a living. It started out as just a hobby. I had been planning on taking up a job as a scientist of some sort, maybe a high-school teacher. But that seemed too boring.
I sighed and leaned back. I should probably apologize to him, but he owed me one too. I was just too stubborn to be the first to apologize. My dad was like that too, so the silence between us usually lasted a while. Eventually one of us got tired of it and caved in. I sat there, staring at the wall. I was sooooo bored. I picked up my GameBoy and popped in a Pokemon game. I was a master at Pokemon, with a level 100 MewTwo, a level 90 Dragonair, and my favorite, a level 100 Suicune. I went through, destroying other Pokemon and their trainers, but I eventually got bored with that too, which doesn't happen very often.
I picked up my MP3 player and put on my headphones. I turned it to Burn It To The Ground by Nickelback and put it on full volume. My angry music. I opened up a book and started to read. I didn't notice someone was in until I felt the edge of my bed dip down. I kept reading, not caring who it was. I was mad at my dad, and I wasn't in the mood to talk to anyone, not even Toby.
They pulled my headphones off and tipped down the edge of my book. It was Dad.
"Sweetie, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to snap at you like that, and I certainly didn't intend to make a scene. It's your life, you do what you want, and I'll support you all the way," he apologized.
I sighed and hugged him tight.
"I love you Daddy, and thanks for understanding," I said.
"I love you too, my little Jacie," he said.
We broke apart and he smiled.
"I think someone else here wants to talk too," he said, moving aside.
Toby was standing behind him, running his hand through his hair again. He sat down next to me and smiled. He pulled out a camera.
"You have room for another photo?" he asked.
I smiled and pulled my dad close. Toby snapped a picture and handed me the camera. My dad pulled Toby over by us and I snapped a picture of all three of us. He patted Toby on the shoulder.
"I'm sorry about before. I was being childish," he said.
Toby just shrugged.
"The past is the past," he simply put.
I smiled and got up, yawning.
"Out, all of you. I need to change," I said, shooing them out the door.
I shut it and took off my shirt. The door opened suddenly and I gasped. Toby stuck his head in.
"You wanna come over to my place afterwards?" he asked.
I threw my shirt at him and shoved him out.
"I'm getting dressed," I said through the door.
I locked my door and pulled my bra off, replacing it with a baggy Tobuscus shirt Toby had left here. I peeled off my pants and put on some sleep shorts. I unlocked the door and stepped out. My dad was slipping on his jacket.
"Bye, sweetie, I've gotta run," he said, kissing my forehead.
I hugged him and walked over to Toby's. I stepped inside and walked over to the couch. I guess he was getting dressed too. I picked up Gryphon and rubbed behind his ears. He licked my hands and settled down on my lap. Toby came out in just sleep pants. He sat down next to me and pecked me on the cheek. I smiled and set Gryphon on the floor. He waddled away.
I flicked on the TV and scrolled until I found a good TV show. It was Family Guy. It was the episode where Peter finds one of his favorite records in a fifties joint. It was Surfin Bird. He started to sing it. I laughed and looked over at Toby. I could tell he was trying not to laugh so we could hear it. He broke down and started laughing. We watched it to the end and flicked it off.
Toby held up a disk and smiled. It was the CD I had given him. He got up and put it in his stereo.
"No," I groaned, covering my ears with pillows.
He laughed and pried them off. I used my hands instead. He pried those off and pinned them to my sides. I heard my voice come through the speakers and blushed. Why'd I have to give him that?
"Oh, c'mon, you sound great," he said.
I shook my head.
"No, I don't. I gave it to you, and I don't know why, but I was kinda hoping you would throw it away," I said.
"Too bad," he said.
He made me sit there and listen to the whole thing. When it was finally over I broke free and crossed my arms. He ran his hand through his hair.
"Stop that, you might go bald," I teased, grabbing his hand.
He grinned. He took his hand back and began to tickle me.
"Stop it!" I squealed.
He tickled even more. I laughed and tried to wiggle away. I rolled off the couch and onto the floor. I crawled away on all fours. My phone buzzed. I checked it. It was a number I didn't recognize. I answered it.
"Hello?" I asked.
"Hey sis," a gruff voice said.
I dropped the phone in shock.
