Isaac's POV
I walk up the stairs and towards Griffin's room. I haven't seen him since this morning when Sterling called us down for a meeting. I knock on his door; no answer. I knock again.
"Griffin?" Normally he answers his door. I turn the nob and open the door. I can see him laying in the bed, his eyes closed.
"Griffin." I shake him awake.
"What? What?" He rests himself on his elbow.
"Where have you been? We haven't seen you all afternoon." He looks dazed and confused.
"I've been-" He pauses. "I've been busy."
"With what?" I realize what he's been doing. Something he's been doing for the past two years.
"Isaac please. Don't tell Sterling." His eyes plead with mine
"I can't. Sterling's already gotten mad at me once today for keeping a secret."
"What secret?"
"That Shane kissed Rae."
"What? What did Sterling do?"
I hesitate. I don't want Griffin to get mad at Sterling.
"He uh-he slapped me."
"Sterling did what? Where is he?"
"Griffin, no! It's done. But you have to tell him where you were. He has to know. You have to tell him you were out looking for Dad."
"Isaac, if I do he'll be pissed. He told me to stop and I haven't." None of us like to get Sterling angry. The only thing worse than that is when he pulls the "disappointment" card.
After we got put in foster-care, we all made a pact to be as good as we could. It's not easy when the school thinks you're a group of bad-boys or bullies or punks. It just blows.
"I'll tell Sterling later. Just leave."
I walk out of his room. I know I can't tell Sterling, but when he finds out where Griffin was and that I already knew, I'm gonna get smacked again. Why do I always get caught in the middle?
