Rae's POV

I step inside the Brooks's house. It's been almost two weeks since I've been here. Normally I go over almost everyday of the week. Lately I couldn't because of my foster-care situation.

"Hey Rae. How's it going?"

"It's alright. On Friday I moved in with my 3rd foster-family."

"Who is it now?"

"The Grace boys."

"Really? Like Sterling and Griffin?"

"Yeah. How do you know them?" How does everyone know either them or my family?

"Oh, I used to hangout with them sometimes when I was still in high school."

I nod my head and walk up to Lanie's bedroom.  She's got her headphones on, so she doesn't hear me enter. I sink down next to her on the bed.

She pulls out her earbuds. "Hey Rae, what's up?"

"So much shit has happened in the 3 days I've been with the Grace boys."

"Spill."

Lanie listens to me rant on about what's happened in the last 72 hours. She nods and gasps at all the right parts. Consoling me on the parts about Shane. When I get to the part that happened this morning, I hesitate to tell her. She's my best friend, though, I have to tell her. I go on and mention to her all the events that went down this morning.

"Hold up. You kicked Shane in his pride?"

"Yeah, but it was an accident, I told you that already." I smile at her.

I keep talking until I reach this point. She tells me all of her best friend advice, and then goes on about her brother being home and how annoying her younger sister, Mariana, has been. Finally, we are both caught up in each other's lives enough to start our homework.

Sometime later, I glance over at Lanie. She's not paying any attention to our math poster.

"What's up?"

"Oh. It's just that, I was wondering? Isn't it a bit odd that Griffin dated Sydney, and Jackson used to hang out with them, yet they never knew me or you?"

"I guess? I mean it could jut be a huge coincidence. Why?"

"No particular reason. I just thought it was unusual how both of our families are somehow connected to the Grace boys." Lanie pushes the thought aside by continuing graphing the equation to our real-world problem.

We finish up the project right when I get a phone call from Shane, saying he's already here to pick me up.

"Hey Lanie?"

"What?"

"Don't you think it's weird that the Grace boys, the school's bad boys, are really nice to me?"

"Maybe they're all in love with you." She winks as we shuffle down the stairs.

"Bye Lanie. See you at school tomorrow." I wave to her while I walk to Shane's car.

I slide into the passenger seat. Shane revs the engine and pulls away. I glance back at the familiar home, and smile at Lanie through the window. She doesn't see it because she's dancing around the room.

"How was your afternoon?" I jump. I completely forgot that Shane was driving me.

"It was good. We finished our math project."

"Shit. That's due tomorrow isn't it? Eli and I haven't even started it."

"Nice going."

"Oh shut up. You weren't going to make it to Lanie's, if Isaac and I hadn't found you." He snaps.

"I wouldn't have needed finding if you didn't make me storm out." I spit.

"You didn't have to storm out."

"Oh please. If you didn't force me to tell you about my past, I would not have stormed out." I say, irritably.

"If you hadn't kicked me in my balls, I wouldn't have made you tell us."

"Whatever. It doesn't matter now. It's all done." I state, exasperatedly. I turn my head and peer out the window the rest of the ride back.

He steers us into the driveway and puts the car in park. I gather up my backpack and unbuckle.

"Thanks for getting me. I can help you later on your project, if you want."

"Yeah, sure. Sorry about the conversation."

"Yeah, whatever. It's fine." I leave the car and enter the empty front room. I stalk up the flight of stairs and down the many corridors. I enter my room, and can't believe what I see. And trust me, it's awful.
