Rae's POV

I walked into school today, leaving the boys behind. I head straight for Lanie. I near the locker and see her and Daniel kissing. Right. They're dating now. Well, since Monday and today's only Tuesday.

I quicken my pace. I reach the locker before they can start shoving each other's tongue down their throats.

"Morning Lanie. Daniel." They stand  there awkwardly. "We still on for Friday Lanie?"

"About that. I'm gonna go hang out at Daniel's house. Is that okay?"

"Yeah totally we can hang out some other time. I gotta get to math."

I leave them be, and make my to A-hall. It is on the other end of the school. My locker's in C-hall.

I find my seat right before Ms. Tkachuk (ka-chuck) walks in. I sit as far away from any other open seats as possible. Spencer is in my Pre-calc. class even though he's a sophomore. He's really smart. Anyway, I don't want to have anything to do with the Grace boys today. I've had enough drama with them already.

************

The day goes on pretty quickly. I haven't talked to any of the boys at all today. Shane tried to talk to me, but I made an extra effort to avoid him and he knows it too.

It's time to leave now and I have to go interact with them for my ride home. I walk straight toward the car, not waiting for any of them like I usually do. I make it all the way to the car without  seeing a single Grace boy.

I wait at the locked car in the rising heat. The sun beats down on my neck. Beads of sweat drip down my forehead while I stand here, waiting for the boys to hurry their asses up.

BUZZ! My phone vibrates in my pocket. I answer the call from Griffin.

"What's up, Griffin?" I sigh into the phone.

"There's a problem at home. All of the boys are here. Thy left the car for you to drive back."

"WHAT? I can't drive it I don't have keys."

"Isaac said he left them under the front right tire."

"What happened there?" Griffin's voice worries me.

"You'll find out when you get here."

"One more thing Griffin."

"What is it?"

"I didn't exactly take my Driver's-test yet. I only have my permit." I bite my lip, waiting for his reply.

"It doesn't matter now. Just be careful and don't act suspicious. And hurry." Griffin hangs up before I can protest further.

********

I'm almost back to the house. Just about 2 more blocks. I'm not half bad at this whole driving thing. Plus I know my way back to the house, so it's not too hard.

I round the next corner. I drive straight until the stoplight turns red. I push on the brakes. The cars in the other two lanes go. They finish and my light turns green. I press my foot on the gas. I'm halfway across the intersection and BAM!

The airbag explodes in my face. I hit the window with my head and I can feel the blood trickle down. Through my half closed eyelids, I see a pick-up truck  smashed into the driver's side of the car. My eyelids grow heavy. No. I have to stay awake. Stay awake Rae. STAY AWAKE! My eyes close even though I plead with myself to keep them open.

I blackout.
