It was perfect. Everything about Juilliard was absolutely stunning. The students along with the building were sophisticated. Creative energy was practically flowing from the walls in heavy waves. I was overwhelmed by all of it, standing alone in the middle of their stage, looking on at the empty rows of theatre seats. I couldn't imagine myself anywhere else.
I took the time to meet a few professors and even a few students. They were welcoming, offering me kind words of encouragement and it only solidified the fact that this was where I want to be. Surrounded by artistic people, like myself, away from my prison back in California.
I felt ready to move on, but having Devin, Foster and Abel here only made these thoughts easier. It made the idea of leaving so much more comfortable, because they were here. Everything I needed and wanted was here with me, and I'm still not sure how I will react when they aren't around.
I was playing with fire. Not that I didn't do that on a regular basis, but right now I was risking a lot. This could end well; I could manage being utterly independent and be satisfied with a long distance relationship. Or.... it could all go up in flames.
I could panic. Being alone for too long could bring back negative thoughts-- thoughts of dying. And this time Devin wouldn't be there to coax me off the ledge. He wouldn't be there at two in the morning when my insomnia got the best of me. Foz wouldn't be there when I needed his advice, and Abel wouldn't be there when I needed to hear his laugh, see him smile or feel him close.
On top of that there were my ever-present concerns for my still budding relationship with Abel.
Would we be able to handle long distance? A couple so dependent on each other, separated or rather torn away from each other in their futile attempt at living a more opportunistic life.
I would be completely and utterly alone for the first time in my whole nineteen years of living, and in all honesty that scared me more than anything.
Not even the glorious halls or the extensive curriculum could offer me the comfort I needed. But I would try regardless, because I can't continue to live my life afraid of being alone. I can't be forever dependent on my brother or my parent's money. I am ready to be my own person and this is the perfect opportunity.

My mother was good on her word and she worked fast. Upon our arrival my new personal driver, Joey, greeted us. He was a young man, maybe mid twenties and he knew these streets like the back of his hand. This was something I was grateful for; the streets of New York were a maze to me, nothing like Los Angeles roads.
He took us to my new place, a two-floor loft apartment fully furnished with modern furniture and a sleek black piano. It was beautiful; the upstairs had a full glass wall and a ceiling that arched into something that resembled a solarium. There were two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a nice kitchen. It was spacey, a place that I knew I could grow to love.
When I walked through the door Devin immediately greeted me. "How did it go?" He scrambled around the kitchen, checking each cabinet for whatever it was that he was looking for. I leant against the counter casually.
"It was unreal, Devin." He smiled, cheering as he found the cabinet that held the glasses.
"I'm seriously happy for you Al. Look at my little brother growing up!" He stumbled over, locking me in an obnoxiously tight hug that had me laughing and shoving him away.
"You're a loser." I stole his glass, filling it up with water from the sink, smiling at his happiness. "Where's Foster? He's been attached to you since we landed." I brought the glass to my lips, winking as I watched Devin's reaction to my not so subtle hint.
