It was Luke's birthday six months after I set Kiandra free. Most of the guests had already left. Luke was talking to his mate while our mums were chatting away like cockatoos. Jonathan was still there and sitting in the backyard looking up at the shining night sky. I walked up and sat next to him. "Hey." He greeted."Hey. Look I've been needing to mention something." I replied. He looked at me confused. I continued, "You know that book I found when we went camping?" He nodded slowly. "What was it about?" I asked. He looked down then looked back at me.
"My dad lives up at near Kings canyon and catches brumbies. When I was little, just after moving here, he worked for the company that caught Kiandra. I always begged him to stop but then he would get mad. Eventually, mum and him split up. Mum also didn't agree with his job and still doesn't. He always yelled at her for that and eventually it got over the line. She drove away and dad back handed me for wanting to go with her. When I told mum, she made sure it was the end and that's when they divorced and dad left." Jonathan explained. I felt really sorry for him.
"Look, I didn't know. I'm sorry for reading the entry. Although there was another one I read. The one from when we met. Those things it said- were they true?" I asked. He sighed.
"Well Rosie wasn't all that happy to be there, Hailey's really weird and... you are all the things I wrote." He replied. I looked down and smiled. I couldn't really believe him but it was nice. I didn't really know what to say. "Skye!" Mum called from the back door.
"I've got to go. See you." I said.
"Bye." He replied.
