Last Day

I remember the day so well that It still replays in my mind all the time. I will always remember that day. It was my last day at home.

Everyone loves cold pillows. Cold pillows are the best. I nuzzled my head into my fresh cold green pillow. It was 5:00 a.m. And I had to get up for school. I wrapped myself in my comforter, hoping I would just doze back off and miss the bus. Too late, I was already awake. I pulled myself out of bed and made my way to the shower. I made the water extra cold. I love cold showers. I never understood how anyone could take a hot shower.

The cold water ran threw my light brown hair making it look black.
I washed the last trace of conditioner was washed out of my hair.

I pulled on my favorite black and white elephant dress. It wasn't too dressy but not too casual.
I let my my hair air dry so the thick brown curls could start to form.
I said goodbye to my Mom and Dad. I thought it was for only a day.
I grabbed my bookbag, an apple, and left my house.

The house I would never see again.

I walked slowly to my bus stop breathing in the cool morning air. It was still dark, so the bright street lights illuminated the sidewalk. My black boots thumped against the ground loudly. My bus veered to a stop directly in front of me and the two large doors opened welcoming me in.
I stepped in and took my place in the front seat. I liked sitting in the front, the air conditioner was stronger and it was quieter. I leaned my head up against the window and closed my eyes.
The rumble of the bus whipping down the road was very relaxing. I wanted to fall asleep, it was a rainy Friday and by the end of the week my brain was fried. Endless pages chemistry has me falling asleep on the bus every Friday.

I woke up as the bus pulled into my high school. I hopped off the bus and strolled up to the building. My friends would normally meet me at a table in the cafeteria. Share homework, listen to music, talk. But today was different, they weren't there. I walked to the school library and pushed open the double doors.

"Hello Miss Worthington. How's Tabitha?" I asked the frail lady sitting behind the desk.

"She doing great Lucy! I just got a new frame!" She lifted a picture of the furry orange cat, Tabitha.

"Nice." I chuckled. I dropped my bag next to the blue beanbag and slumped into it. I was the only one in the library at 7:00 a.m. No surprise.

The day went by faster then I had thought it would. The loud bell echoed through the school signaling us to leave.

"The bell doesn't dismiss you, I do. Sit down!" Mrs. Noris croaked.

No one sat down.

Everyone shuffled out of the class and went their separate ways. I started making my way home. Despite what you would think, I like walking home. It gives me time to plan out the rest of my day.

"Ok, chemistry homework first. That's the hardest. Then I'll eat. Then-" a black car with tinted windows behind me cut me off. It was rolling rather slowly. When it passed me it sped away.

"Ok, then I'll start my history paper."
Again the same car turned a corner and ended up behind me again.

This went on for about three minutes. Finally the car started to roll to a stop a few feet away from me.
I started to walk quicker. And before I knew it, I was running.
My feet pushing off the pavement as soon as they made contact. With each step I jumped a little further. My hair was dancing wildly behind me.

I turned my head.

I shouldn't have.

Two men wearing suits and dark sunglasses were sprinting behind me.
I let out a sharp scream. I was so close to home.

No one would hear me.

Or see me.

Ever again.

My feet hit the pavement for the last time. They were whisked out from under me as I was jerked around and thrown over the shoulder of the taller man.

I kicked.

No use.

I screamed.

Nope.

I pounded the man back as hard as I could.
Didn't phase him.
The second man gripped my wrists to stop me from punching the other man.
I watched helplessly as my backpack, laying on the floor, got smaller and smaller.

I was placed nicely in the backseat of the car, as if they didn't want to hurt me.

Tears streamed down my face as I screamed again.

A young lady pulled the seatbelt over me and clicked it in.
"Hi sweetie. Don't be alarmed. We're the good guys. Smell this, it smells amazing." She pressed a damp clothe over my mouth and nose.

The man still held my hands, I kicked and screamed some more but they were muffled by the terrible smelling cloth.
My eyes blinked a few times as I started to rest my head against the window.

"I hate my job." Was the last thing I heard.
