Day 10
"I'll be back in like two hours." I closed my bedroom door behind me.
I was heading for the same nursery door I used when meeting Andrew last time.
I stepped into the elevator and pressed the button for the first floor. The elevator started to rush down. Suddenly it stopped and the lights flickered out.
"What?" I whispered to myself.
The lights came back on, and the screen that tells you what floor your on only flashed Error on bright red.
The elevator instantly dropped as the lights flicked back out.
I screamed as I hit the wall. The elevator rushed and rushed.
I screamed for help even though I knew no one would hear me. Suddenly the doors opened on the third floor.
"Mrs. R, why is that girl sleeping in the elevator?" A little girl pointed at me.
I struggled to keep my eyes open. My arm was hurt and I hit my head.
"Miss? Miss! Hey, can you see me?" Cold hands wrapped around my body. A brown haired teacher lifted me out of the elevator and onto a couch nearby.
"Hey! Watch out!" I heard a familiar voice in the distance.
"Who are you girls?" The teacher faced three girls, I couldn't quite make out their faces.
"We're her friends, we followed her down in the second elevator." One of the girls told the teacher, while the other two examined my arm.
I heard Vivian and Kira's voices. I saw Cameron pull the hair out of my face.
Then everything was dark.
****
"She's waking up."
"See Cam, I told you we didn't need to throw water on her."
"Damn."
"Hey Lucy."
I tried to open my eyes. My head was pounding.
"How are you feeling?" Vivian touched my shoulder.
"My head. My arm." I whispered.
"We know. It's not broken, just fractured. And your head is temporary." Kira handed me a cup of water.
"Thanks." I took steady sips of the water.
"Do you remember what happened?" Cameron asked.
"I think. I was in the elevator, and the lights went out. I hit the wall, and then the doors opened and I saw a little girl. That's it."
"That's pretty much it. The elevator malfunctioned. You're lucky, you could've been killed." Vivian smiled.
"Malfunction? That's what we're calling it?" Cameron rolled her eyes.
"Cameron. Stop." Kira shushed her.
"What is it? Why'd she say that?" I sat up slowly.
"The Car Radio bike is missing. Someone knew when and where you were going." Kira helped me stand.
"Great." I said sarcastically rubbing my head.
"I know right."
"Hang on. I remember more, you guys showed up when I was in the hall with the girl and the teacher." I looked at them.
"Busted." Cameron whispered.
"You guys followed me!" I snapped.
"I wouldn't call it following." Kira smiled.
"You knew I was going out with Andrew! You were spying!" I looked at the three of them.
"I wouldn't call it spying." Vivian smiled.
"What would you do that?" I slapped the sides of my thighs. I got a little dizzy and stumbled.
"Whoa okay. Let's sit down now." Vivian lowered me back into my bed.
"I don't know who the bigger spy is, my parents or you guys!" I held my forehead.
"I just wanted to check out Andrew! See if he was, suspicious." Kira shrugged.
"He has nothing to do with Hazel, If that's what you're thinking." I rolled my eyes.
"You never know." She sat next to me.
"Wait, Andrew! I'm supposed to be with him!" I jumped up.
"Lucy! Wait you need to rest!" They called after me.
"No! I have to see him." I left the room and went to the library.
****
"He'll be here." I tapped my foot.
"Okay." Cameron replied in a sarcastic tone.
"Maybe he's not coming." Vivian touched my leg.
"He is." I snapped and jerked my leg away.
"Hey girls? We're closing. It's lights out in two minutes." Stacy, the volunteer librarian motioned for us to leave.
Without moving I pulled ten Blue Birds out of my pocket and held them up.
"Thirty minuets." She warned and took the CSCFG money.
"He's going to come." I tapped my foot faster.
"Yeah, yeah." Cameron fell onto the couch on her back.
Stacy flicked the lights off and left. The moon light lit up the library through the window just enough. All was silent.
"We're going to the bathroom. When we get back, we're leaving." They got up and Wales quietly out of the library. Probably waiting until they were out of the room to call me crazy.
"You stood me up." A voice came from the opposite side of the room.
