Day 3
I woke up first. I blinked my eyes wearily. I brushed the hair out of my eyes and sat up. I nudged Kira so she'd wake up.
"Stooooop." She rolled over on the white fuzzy carpet we fell asleep on in the center of the floor.
"Kira its lunch time."
She shot up.
"I'm up. Let's go." She rubbed her eyes. I laughed and stood up. Kira followed behind me. I exchanged my bun for a tight pony tail. Kira touched up her liner before pulling on a grey beanie.
"Ready?" I asked. She nodded with her eyes closed. She was still half asleep.
We walked to the cafeteria and got in line.
I placed a small bowl of mac and cheese and an apple juice on my trey.
We both walked through the crowds of girls piling into the line. It was 12:30, rush hour.
I squeezed my way through the crowds walking to the table we sat at this morning. Seeing Vivian and Cameron already waiting patiently. That's when I felt it.
It was cold and wet and it ran down my back. Chunks of ice sent goosebumps over my skin as they slid down my back.
"Hey!" I took two quick steps forward and jerked around. Two girls stood glaring at me, one with a now empty cup.
"Watch where you're going." One of the girls scoffed. She was tall and thin, with strawberry red hair that she obviously dyed. It was held back in two braids. Her freckles floated on her heated, angry face. The second girl stood just behind her. She was a bit shorter with long blonde hair that cascaded down to her lower back. She had way too much makeup on, she looked like one of my paintings.
"Her watch where she's going? It's you who dumped lemonade down her back!" Kira blurted out jumping in front of the girls face.
"Wow. The newbie needs someone to speak for her too." The red head grinned then pouted at me sarcastically.
"I can speak just fine. I just don't have utter crap coming out of my mouth." My anger boiled as I pulled Kira back so I was face to face with this red haired Barbie.
"Listen here. I've heard about you. Lots about you. And how your parents are on a long trip to find some bad guys," she pouted on 'bad guys'.
"and I've also heard they'll l be there a while. So I guess I'm stuck with you for a while. So you're going to stay out of my damn way until they do come back. That is, if they ever do. Now run back to your little chalkboard. Artist." She stared at me grinding in victory. Her eyes were cold and cruel.I wanted to cry.
I wanted to scream.
But I couldn't let her know she got to me. I turned around and started walking back to our table.
"Come on Kira." I whispered.
Then I heard it. The slap heard around the cafeteria.
I spun around to see the red head clutching her red sore face.
And Kira's red hand."Shut. Up." Kira stood tall. Staring at her with eyes like daggers. The whole cafeteria was silent now.
"Kira! My office! Now!" We all looked to see Miss Genevieve hot faced and glaring at Kira.
Kira pulled her self out of her trance and shuffled over to Miss Genevieve. They walked out of the cafeteria in silence.
"Come on Lucy. Let's get out of here." Vivian gripped my wrist and pulled me away from the scene along with Cameron. I abandoned my lunch trey on a nearby table and follows them to Kira and I's room.
~•~
"What's taking them so long?!" I demanded, pacing the bedroom floor."Miss Genevieve gives long speeches...and punishments." Cameron trailed of while shuffling through the music on her phone.
"Who even was that-that-that Barbie!" I stuttered in anger.
