Day 63 Part Two - The Day of Change

The walk to Mrs Genevieve's office was almost painful.

The silence engulfed us while we walked down the hall to the last door in the hallway.

Andrew reached for my hand slowly and looped his finger around mine. He gave me a side glance and a smile as we tried to communicate through our eyes.

One of the guards opened the door without hesitation. Mrs. Genevieve walked in and sat at her desk, Andrew and I sat in the two chairs across from her.

"No, Andrew you're going to have to leave the room." She spoke without flinching.

"But, Mom-"

"Andrew." She snapped at him slamming her hands on the desk.

Andrew stood up slowly and left the room with the two guards.

"Mrs Genevieve, I can explain. We-"

"I know what you've been doing." She interrupted.

"Your son is-" I tried to speak again.

"Don't tell me what my son is." She stop up slowly.

"I'm sorry it's just-" I stammered.

"Do you know why you're here Lucy?" Mrs Genevieve asked while walking to the door. She locked the door and moved to the window.

"Yes. My parents are after Romenoff." I shifted in my seat.

"Close. You're parents are after someone very important very powerful." She locked the window.

"Yeah but they're going to find him. I know they will." I stared at her.

"Ha! Your parents aren't even looking in the right places." She turned and crossed her arms.

"What do you mean?" I stuttered.

"Oh Lucy, Lucy, Lucy-" she cooed "my workers have been steering your parents in the wrong direction for five years."

"What? Why?! Why would they-"

"Because sweetheart, I want to win." She grinned evilly and walked back to her desk.

"Win? What do you mean win?"  I questioned.

"I've been protecting the children of the very spies I despise for ten years now."

"What do you mean despise? What's going on?" My voice cracked.

"My husband and I have been fighting the spies since we were married. When our son was born, I wanted to stop. I wanted to be a family. But he insisted. He insisted that we continue killing the spies that he believed deserved it." She didn't break her gaze.

"Who is your husband?" I looked down.

"Romenoff." She whispered.

My blood ran cold.

"So I continued for him I was a good wife and I did what he wanted. He and I started this organization protecting the children of spies, with the sole purpose of finding out more information on them. All this time there was only one child he really wanted." She opened a  drawer under her desk.

"No..." Teared welled in my eyes.

"You." She looked into my eyes.

I jumped up and headed for the door.

"Sit down." My skin flooded with goosebumps when I heard the click of a gun.

I turned around slowly as she pointed the gun to the seat I was just in.

I wrapped my arms around my self and walked over to the seat. Tears streaming down my face.

"I've had cameras on you since you got here. You were so stupid! You didn't notice any of the signs. I dropped that elevator. I knew about Hazel, and your relationship with Andrew. I even sent those boys to the library, and you thought it was Kristin."

"Why? Why would you waste time doing all of that?" I yelled.

"I needed to weaken you. I needed you to doubt yourself." She stood again.

"Why?" I stopped.

"So this would be much easier. NOW!" She slammed a button on her computer and screamed.

The door was kicked down by three men in black suits holding large guns.

I screamed as two of them grabbed each of my arms and the other held held out a gun.

"Andrew! Andrew come back!" I screamed at the top of my lungs.

"He's already been taken out." She smiled.

"You lied! You're a liar! You promised me! You promised that this was a safe place!" I pushed all the air out as I screamed.

"Oh honey this is a safe place, for all the girls here but you. You were never safe from us. We're the Blue Birds." I stared at her until my vision fogged from my tears.

I felt a deep pain to my head, and all went black.
