Day 8

"Someone tell me what the HELL JUST HAPPENED IN THERE." I yelled pacing back and forth. Vivian and Cameron were siting on Cameron's bed. Kira was in our room asleep.

"Lucy please calm-" Vivian started.

"No! I will not calm down Vivian. Somethings going on and I won't to know. Now."

"Lucy! We've known each other for years. You got here a few weeks ago. Don't you think some things are private?!" Cameron snapped at me.

"I was taken, from my home. My family. My friends. Everything. Given very little information. And shoved into a random building with a bunch of girls for who knows how long. And ever since then, it's been secret after secret. Now I want to know what's going on here. Please." I went from anger to plead in a matter of seconds.

"Let's just tell her." Vivian looked down.

"Please..." I whispered.

"Fine. I'll start from the beginning." Cameron closed her eyes.

****
"It's late! Can we please go to bed?" Kira removed the comforter from her bed and sunk in.

"Fine. I'm pretty tired." Hazel removed the textbooks from her lap and went for the window.

"I'm opening a window. It's hot in here." She unhooked the latch and felt the cool breeze rush in the room.

"Goodnight Hazel." Kira rolled over.

"Night." Hazel leaped into her bed and drifted off.

****

"Wait, so that's why Kira was mumbling name Hazel? That's her old roommate." I listened intently.

"Yes and don't interrupt me." Cameron continued.

"I can tell my own story." Kira appeared at the door. Her tiny frame leaning against the open dorm door. Arms crossed.

"Sorry. Go ahead." Cameron sat back down.

"Are you sure?" Vivian intervened.

"Yes." Kira gave a reassuring nod.

"The crash was so loud. My bedroom lamp falling onto the floor and shattering into a million pieces." Kira stared at her feet as she spoke.

"It was a man, no two. They climbed through the window knocking over the lamp. Hazel and I sat up." Tears welled in her coffee eyes.

"They ripped guns out of their jackets. The first man grabbed my neck," she choked on tears, "he held the gun to my head."

I sat in horror as Kira sobbed in front of me.

"I screamed. The second man pulled Hazel out of her bed and started to leave. I tried to stop them, I rushed forward the man pushed me down. I hit the broken glass." She held out her arm to reveal a long scar just under elbow. Her face was wet with tears.

"And then the bang. It's was so loud!" She screamed.

"It hurt my ears. He shot her in the leg causing her to collapse in his arms. I cried and screamed over and over 'no' 'stop' 'please'. They didn't listen. They just took her away with blank expressions. Security rushed in. They peered out the window as the black car took off. I stood and pushed them out of the way. I screamed. I wanted to die. They picked me up and took me out of the room. I fought them off. I wanted to follow the car."

The room was silent.

"Our room was cleared the next day. Still no word on if she's alive or not. But I regret every day since then. I could have done something you know?"

She collapsed onto the floor.

"I could have helped! I could have prevented it! WHY DIDN'T I DO ANYTHING? WHY?!" She screamed in terror.

"Stop Kira! Shhhh it's alright." Vivian cradled her.

"That's why you freaked when I opened the window." I whispered.

"I HATE THAT WINDOW!" She cried out.

"I'm sorry." I kneeled to her level.

She just cried into Vivian's shoulder. Shaking like a puppy.

"Let's go to bed." Cameron started to lift her.

"Can I stay in here. Please." Kira whispered.

"Of course." Vivian put two blankets and pillows on the floor. Kira curled into a ball in one of the blankets.

I stood up and walked over to the window.

"Hey Kira." I whispered.

She looked up at me.

I locked the window.

She smiled and mouthed thank you.
