CHAPTER 15

You know those migraines where it feels like something is trying to escape your head with each pulse? Yes? Well times that by 10 and you will know how I’m feeling right now.  I let out a few groans of pain before I was able to fully open my eyes. I heard a gasp and that grabbed my attention.  "You're awake! I thought I didn't make it in time…" I felt an icy hand grab mine. I didn't need my full vision back to know who was holding my hand. It was Vincent.  I had regained my full vision in a few blinks; I looked to my left and saw Vincent sitting in a chair beside my bed, leaning over me almost. That wasn't the most shocking thing though. It was his expression, he actually looked concerned. "What happened?" I asked in a croaky voice.  But before he could answer I started coughing continuously, the air tasted foul, I've never smelt something so disgusting. "What is that smell?!" I said as I regained my breath.  "Aaah… that would be the once employed Dominic,” He said, his eyes colder than his skin. ”He disobeyed my orders and for that he must be punished."  "That doesn't explain the smell," I added, after his answer didn’t satisfy my curiosity. "Vampires give off a very rotten smell when their flesh is burned," He said with a faint, eerie smile. "You mean to tell me what I'm basically choking on is Dominic's burning flesh?" I thought I was going to throw up from the smell. I tried to push myself up so I could distance myself from Vincent, but I was pushed back down. Vincent’s face grew closer to mine, his blue eyes examining me. "I wouldn't be moving if I were you, you're still very weak. You are most likely going to need another blood transfusion." He said, breaking his gaze and moving it to the machines behind the bed head.

That's when I saw it, all the tubes hanging from my arm going into all these different type of machines, one of the tubes undeniably going into bag full of blood. "What happened?!" I said, stunned.  "Well as I am to believe it, you pushed Dominic a little too far today and he thought he would scare you by having a little drink of your blood." It all came rushing back to me, I finally snapped back at Dominic, he got pissed, he sank his fangs into me and that's when I passed out.  "Oh god! I'm not going to become a vampire am I?!" Vincent just looked at me like I was an idiot.

"No you won't become one of us, it takes more than just a simple bit of blood drinking on our part. I do have to say this though; you have to have the sweetest blood I've ever tasted. That doesn't usually happen when a human is mated to a wolf…" His eyes shifted back towards mine. The blue intensity that his stare held was unsettling, yet ominously hypnotic.

I broke away from the stare first, “What’s so surprising about sweet tasting blood?" I added quickly. "Well the sweeter the blood the more powerful the person is, and coming from you… well it's really something." He added, still looking at me with his piercing stare- I tried ignore it as much as possible while mulling over what he just said. I'm not sure how to take in what Vincent just said. I probably looked like a dumbstruck idiot right now. A small, nice smile started to appear on his sharp face. I thought I would never see one on a vampire, it looked almost, happy?  "Wow…" I said, partially mesmerized. "What?" He asked curiously. Turning his head slightly, emphasizing his question.  "You smiled and it for once didn't look...wicked," "I think I'll take that as a compliment," he said, giving me a questionable look. We sat there in silence for a few moments when I realized something he said. "Hang on, so you drank my blood as well?! I don't think I'm okay with that…" Stupid Vampires! Think they can drink whoever’s blood they want, when they please!  "I didn't drink it, I had to lick where the puncture wounds were to stop the bleeding. My saliva has healing abilities," He said, like it was acceptable behaviour.  "Your saliva has healing abilities?! I guess I shouldn't really be surprised any more when I hear this sort of stuff, I mean I'm talking to a vampire right now and I live in a community where most people are werewolves…"  "Ah yes the Werewolves. And I can imagine your little mate has gone into a frenzy right now being that he felt everything you just went through," He said nonchalantly.  "Wait, Jason can feel what I go through? How is that even possible?" One surprise after the other… "By your bond as mates, I'm actually surprised you haven't got his bite on you yet," He said, his eyebrows raising in a sign of confusion. "Ah… well the thing is I haven't actually accepted him yet, everything was going so fast and I asked if
