Connor

The hospital was buzzing, people walking in and out of doors, up and down hallways. The smell of antiseptic lingered everywhere, the sound of crying at every door. The white walls did nothing but remind people of how bright their dying friend's life could have been.

"Miss, you're not allowed inside." The secretary told me for the third time.

"I need to see him." I told her.

"I'm sorry, but you can't."

"I'm not letting him take that medicine! I'm not letting him give up!"

"Would you rather him die in pain or die in peace?"

"Shut up and let me see him!"

"You can't. Go take that attitude somewhere else."

"Excuse me? I'm trying to see my dying friend before he's gone forever! You're not letting me say my goodbyes, at least."

"I can't allow anyone in."

"Please."

"No. I'm sorry, Miss."

"I'm begging you."

"I can't."

There was a small beeping sound on the computer on her desk. She stared down at the screen, looking back up at me with a worried expression. Panic rushed through my body as she typed things in, frowning deeply with every letter.

"I'm sorry." She sighed.

"What?"

"He's gone."
