Almost three weeks passed, and soon it was the night of the dance. Cecily, Isabelle, and Clary had all made me go, though I hadn't wanted to. We had all gone dress shopping two days, and I had to admit, it was fun. It was a formal dance, so we would all be wearing gowns. Isabelle had gotten a long red dress, with a slit in it, totally her style. Cecy had gotten a dark blue one, and Clary had gotten a black one. I had decided on an light pink one, that it almost looked white. They were all very pretty.
Cody was taking me to the dance. I hadn't wanted to go with him, but he asked me, and the girls had forced me to go with him. I hadn't spoken to Will in weeks. In Chemistry, we ignored each other, and didn't look at each other. He never came when we would all hang out, and he always looked miserable. Everyday, I was getting a little bit better. I could now finally say his name, without totally having a breakdown. Alec had also come out and told us he was gay, which of course, hadn't bothered us at all. He was currently dating Magnus Bane. They were cute, I shipped them.
"What do you guys think: red or black heels?" Isabelle asked, snapping me out of my trance.
The four of us were getting ready at Izzy's. The boys were going to come pick us up from here. I wasn't sure if Will was going to come. I doubted it.
"Red." Clary, Cecily, and I said in unison.
"Okay." She chirped, and put them on.
We all then did each other's makeup, and then we were all ready. We all walked downstairs, to see Jace, Simon, Gabriel, and Cody all standing there. They were all wearing tuxedos, and they all looked very good.
"You look beautiful." Cody smiled.
I blushed. "Thanks."
Jace then walked up to me, and I shot him a look. He frowned and shook his head. My heart sank a bit, Will wasn't coming. All of us walked outside, and got into our cars. Cody and I drove to the school, quickly, and then walked in. The gym was decorated very nicely, and I smiled. We met back up with everyone, and we all started talking. The four of us girls, all went dancing for about an hour, and then we went to go get a drink.
"This is fun." Clary smiled.
"It is!" Cecily agreed. "Everyone looks so nice and--what the hell is he doing here?"
I followed her eyes, and almost choked on my punch. There stood Will, talking to Jace. He was wearing a tuxedo, and my eyes were glued to him. He looked beautiful. The most beautiful I had seen him, lately. He was talking to Jace, and Jace was smiling a bit.
"I thought he wasn't coming." I said in a strained voice.
"So did I." Cecily said.
Will then suddenly looked up, and caught my gaze. We stared at each other from across the gym, and it was like it was only the two of us. After two minutes, I tore my eyes away from him. A few minutes, Jace and Will walked up to us, and I looked anywhere else but Will.
"Will, I didn't know you'd be here." Cecily started.
"Thought I would come." He shrugged casually.
Suddenly, Cody came rushing up to me.
"Tessa, I have to go. My grandmother's in the hospital. Can you get a ride with Isabelle?" He asked frantically.
I frowned. "Yes, of course. I hope your grandmother's okay."
"Thanks." He smiled weakly.
Cody then kissed my cheek, and then walked away quickly. I blushed, and my eyes moved to Will. He was looking at me, jealousy written all over his face. I looked away, and clenched my fists behind my back. We all talked for a bit longer, and then "Thinking out Loud" by Ed Sheeran came on. The same song Will and I had danced to at Jocelyn and Luke's wedding. All the couples went to the dance floor, and left Will and I standing alone awkwardly. Don't ask me, I thought to myself. Don't ask me.
"Do you want to dance?" The first words he had said to me in weeks.
I closed my eyes, and then opened them again. "Okay."
We walked onto the dance floor, and he put his hands on my waist, and mine went around his neck. I felt the electricity running through me, and this time I knew he felt it too. We swayed gently, and I couldn't describe how it felt to touch him again.
"You look beautiful." Will said quietly.
I blushed. "Thanks, you look nice too."
We were silent again.
"Why did you come tonight?" I asked softly.
"I was getting sick of moping around." He muttered.
I didn't say anything, and he looked at me. His blue eyes poured into mine, and then suddenly his lips were on mine. I kissed him, and he kissed me back. I felt whole again, like I had been without an arm or leg for months, and now it was back. Nothing felt more right, than kissing Will. Suddenly, he pulled away, taking his arms off.
"That was a mistake." He said shakily. "I shouldn't have done that."
"Will." I whispered.
He shook his head. "I shouldn't have come here. I--I'm sorry, Tessa."
Will then walked away, and I was left there standing there alone.
Will's POV
I clenched my steering wheel tightly, cursing myself over and over. Why had I done that?! I had kissed her! Just when it was starting to be bearable to see her again, I went and pulled that shit. I was such a screw up. Why the hell had I even gone tonight? Only to see her, that's why. Tessa looked so beautiful tonight, it had taken my breath away. I had to stop coming around to see her. It was bad for the both of us.
I was so distracted, that I didn't see the big truck coming towards me. I knew that it was too late, and I said one last thing, before I was hit.
"I love you, Tessa."
