Dean hung around the house for a week. He drank a lot of beer but ate very little. Bobby called to check on him and asked if John had come back. Dean sighed and told him hadn't. The older hunter told the boy that his Dad should be there soon. He had stopped to talk with Bobby and the man told Dean that he reminded him had a son waiting on him. Dean snorted and told him okay.
Later in the day, he heard his Dad's truck pull into the drive. The young hunter did not move. His guardian angel appeared just as the older Winchester walked into the house.
"He leave?"
Dean looked up at his father from where he was sitting on the couch. Beer bottles were everywhere. His green eyes showed anger, but he remained quiet.
"I asked you a question, Dean."
The young man stood up and swayed slightly. He looked at his father.
"Yeah, he took the bus."
"Where'd he get the money?"
"I gave him all I had."
John snorted and looked around the room. "You need to clean this mess in the morning. Bobby is going to come get all this stuff. I have a list of jobs for you to take on."
Dean stared at the list and then back at his dad. His voice shook as he asked, "We're not hunting together?"
"I'm going to be working a second list and you will work this one. We kill two birds with one stone."
"So, I'm not needed because there's no Sammy to look after?"
John stared at him, disgust in his eyes. "No, you're not needed for my hunts. I can do them just fine. If I need someone, I'll call you or Bobby and see who's closest to me. You work these. Bobby will give you more when these are done."
"Yes, Sir," Dean replied, anger and pain in his voice.
John went to the third bedroom where he stayed when he was there. Dean watched him leave the room and sobbed softly.
Cas could feel his pain and knew his charge felt deserted and unwanted.
'I won't leave you, Dean,' he spoke but he wasn't heard. He watched the older Winchester brother go to his room and lie down on his bed, tears rolling down his face. The angel felt helpless as he laid his hand on the young man's head and his heart cried out to Father, but there was silence.
Frustration built within the angel and Castiel, angel of Thursdays, screamed in anger and sorrow. He knelt on the bed and urged Dean to move over. The hunter curled into a ball on his side, and suddenly felt comfort flow through him as his invisible guardian curled next to him and held him in his arms.
