The Dance (ch. 7)

Friday comes faster than I thought, and I tell Theo I'd love to go to the dance with him. Harlee and I sneak out of school and hour before it ends to go to the mall and get dresses. I mention to her that I don't have any money. "No worries. I got it." She smiles.

I pick out a simple lacy black dress and show it to her. "Ready?" "Sure." I shrug. She looks around and stuffs a pink dress full of sequence and glitter in her bag.

"Hey! Put that back!" On of the workers says. "Come on!" She grabs my arm and we dash out of the mall and into the parking lot. "We gotta get farther." She informs and starts climbing up the fence. I follow and we continue running and laughing. "You're a fucking genius Harlee."

When I get home, I slip on the dress, Bella puts some makeup on me and curls my hair. "Beautiful." She smiles. I hear a knock on the door. It must be Theo.

"Have fun!" She grins. I open it and smile bright. "You look amazing Cass." He brings me into a tight hug. As we walk down the driveway I notice Jonah sitting on the curb at the other side of the street. "Um hold on I just to do something really fast."

I sigh and walk to Jonah. "I'm not in the mood Jonah." I say. "What're you all fancied up for?" He asks. "I'm going to the school dance with Theo." I smile, hoping to piss him off. "Your boyfriend?" He questions. "None of your business. And I thought you said you never wanted to see me again so why the hell are you here?" I ask.

"One of the guys at the gas station quit and since you're poor and shit I thought I'd offer you a job. "No way-" I begin and realize that I could really use a job. "Alright. But talk to me about it later I gotta go." I skip my way into the car.

"Who was that?" Theo asks, concerned. "A guy who works with me." I smile and he starts to drive. The dance is fun- I am glad I went and didn't let anything hold me back.

Imogen's date, Ben offers to take the three of us back to his house and I don't even think about declining his offer. Imogen sits in the passenger seat beside Ben while Theo and I climb into the back. Ben was a senior full of tattoos and piercings. Imogen dates a lot of guys, only from our school though. None of them really worked out for her though. She stayed with her last boyfriend for only 2 weeks. His house is big, and there are no cars in the drive way.

We all settle into the living room. Ben comes out with a case of beers, and hands each of us one. "Shit I'm out of weed." He grunts. I pull a bag out of my purse and smirk. "I like your friend Imogen." He laughs. She walks over and kisses him. I pass him the bag and sit on the floor next to Theo. I open up the beer and chug it.

I notice Theo looks scared and shrug at him. "I don't really drink." He admits. "Come on you don't wanna be the only sober person here." I laugh. "Fine fine." He hesitates before taking a small sip. I look over to see Imogen and Ben against the wall. "Hey we don't wanna see that!" I laugh. I turn on the radio and get Theo to dance with me.

We all dance and do some crazy shit I know I won't remember when the morning comes.
