(Esmee's POV)
I woke up in the middle of the night by a lot of screaming and yelling. I stepped out of bed and walked out the door. In the dark corridors two figures were arguing. I just make out their faces in the dim light that was shining. Noa and Thranduil were yelling at each other. "It makes no sense! Femke did nothing wrong!" Noa yelled and Thranduil looked at her with a cold stare. "How many times must I tell you that I don't allow dwarves to walk around freely in my kingdom! Didn't you hear me the first couple of times?" Thranduil shouted back. Linde also walked out the door and looked at me with a confused face. "What the fuck is happening?" She asked me softly but I shrugged.
We heard a scream and looked back at Noa and Thranduil. Thranduil had pinned her to the wall with his strong arms. "I've been kind enough to bring you back home and this is how you repay me?!" Thranduil asked furiously. "Hey pointy-ear! Let her go!" I shouted and Thranduil snapped his head towards us.
Thranduil immediately let Noa go and she fell on the floor. "Turn around and walk away, human. This is none of your business." Thranduil said calmly. "None of my business? Noa is my friend and I will help her when she needs it!" I shouted back. "Turn around or I'll throw you in the dungeons with your dwarf-friend." Thranduil ordered.
I walked right up to him and stood in front of him with my hands at my side. "How about no?" I said stubbornly. Thranduil was visibly getting angrier. "I would like it if you could just address my dwarf-friend as Femke." I said and Thranduil scoffed. "You can't tell me what to do. I'll call her dwarf-scum if I want to!" Thranduil said and then I lost it.
I lunged my fist at him and hit his face. Thranduil fell backwards holding his nose. "Guards!" Thranduil yelled in pain.
A couple of guards ran towards me and the keeper of the keys grabbed my arm. Linde was about to help but I shook my head. "I have a plan." I whispered and Linde nodded. Without the key-keeper noticing I grabbed one of the keys. "Take her away!" Thranduil shouted and the guards pushed me. I almost tripped and the key fell out of my hand.
A guard saw the key fall and picked it up. "You were going to try to escape?" He asked and I glared at him. The guards took me to the dungeons but before we turned the corner I looked back at Thranduil. His nose was bleeding terribly and a smirk grew on my face.
The guards threw me in Femke's cell and closed the door. "What the hell are you doing here?" Femke asked and I sighed. "I punched Thranduil's face." I shortly said and Femke started laughing loudly. She held up her hand and I gave her a high-five. "I wanted to get us out with a key but I lost the key." I said disappointed. "That's okay, besides if we would escape we would have to leave Mirkwood. We wouldn't make it to the second day." Femke said and tilted her head back and sat against the wall.
I sat next to her and Femke started humming a Hollywood Undead song. "Which song is it?" I asked. "Rain." Femke said and looked at her hands. "You know I wonder what rain is like here." I said and Femke stared at me. "You what?" She asked. "I wonder if the rain is different." I said and Femke chuckled. "Of course it's not. It's just rain... it won't change." Femke said and I nodded understanding. "I was so excited to come here and and walk around in the forest and go to all the places in the books but I'm afraid we'll never get out of here." I said sadly. "We should have never come. This isn't where we belong and it won't ever be." Femke said agreeing.
"I thought the exact same thing but you'll get used to living in a cell, I promise!" a voice said. Femke and I looked up and in the cell opposite of us someone was looking through the bars of his cell. I stood up and walked to the cell door. "Who are you?" I asked and the man smiled. "I'm Joriam, nice to meet you." He said. "I would shake your hand but that's easier said than done right now." he said making me chuckle. "I'm Esmee and this is Femke." I said and Femke stood next to me. "If you want to leave I have a key." Joriam said. "You have a key?" Femke asked in disbelief and Joriam nodded. "Yeah, I got it from a guard. Well, with got I mean stole but he's dead so I wouldn't consider it stealing." Joriam said. "You killed a guard?" I asked. "Yeah, he's been here for a few days but none has come to look for him, poor guy." "How did you kill him?" I asked. "Kitchen knives. I have a couple of kitchen knives that I sharpened along the wall of my cell." Joriam explained. "If you have the key then why are you still here?" Femke asked. "You said it yourself. You wouldn't make the second day, nor would I. It's smarter to stay here if I want to live. They bring you food, you have a bed. It's not as bad as it seems." Joriam said and I nodded understanding.
"But now that there are three of us I think that we'll make it, so shall we?" Joriam asked and opened the door with the key. I looked at Femke but she just shrugged. Joriam opened the door and we walked out. "Here, you should have a knife for your own protection." Joriam said and gave Femke and I a knife. "Just aim for the heart or for a artery and you'll be fine." Joriam said and we softly walked up the stairs.
We somehow made our way to the gates. "Who's there?" a guard asked. "We can't show our faces, he'll recognize us." I said to Joriam and he nodded. "I'll speak." Joriam said and turned his attention to the guard. "My dear fellow! Would you be so kind to open the gate for us?" Joriam asked politely with a big smile on his face. "Do you have the King's permission?" the guard asked and Joriam laughed. "How cute, you're so loyal to your King! Open the door fuck-face." Joriam said and the guard spit on his face. "I don't have to follow orders from scum like you!" the guard shouted. "Be gone!" He shouted but then he gasped and his eyes widened. Joriam stepped backwards and the guard fell to the ground clutching his stomach. Joriam was holding a bloody knife. "Okay, we'll open the gates ourselves. Thanks for your help, anyway." Joriam said happily and opened the big gates. "Where will we go?" Femke asked. "I know a house not too far away from here. I have a friend there who owes me." Joriam said and we nodded. "Come on, it might not be far but it will be quite a long walk." Joriam said. "Then why don't we steal some horses?" Femke asked. "Good thinking, dwarf." He said smiling. "You know, I used to be a human." Femke said a little angry. "Calm down, it's okay. I'm also a dwarf. Don't let my height deceive you." Joriam said. He wasn't even that tall...
We walked towards the sound of horse whinnying. A stable appeared in sight and we sneaked inside. Three guards were taking care of their horses. The horses were still saddled. "We take those horses and take out the guards." Joriam said and Femke and I nodded. Joriam would go first then Femke and then I would go last. The first guard walked to a pen and Joriam slit the throat of the guard. Femke sneaked towards the second guard and also slit his throat. Then I ran towards the guard and jumped on him. I tackled him to the ground and before he could make a sound I slit his throat. "Nicely done, Esmee!" Joriam exclaimed. "Now get on the horses!" Joriam said and we jumped onto the horses and rode through the gate.
(Linde's POV)
Noa and I walked down the stairs of the dungeon. We heard voices speak to each other. "We should have never come. This isn't where we belong and it won't ever be." I heard Femke say and I stopped and looked at Noa. Noa deeply sighed and we turned around sadly and hurt.
We walked through the corridors when Legolas passed us. "How's your father?" Noa asked. "He's fine. The bleeding has stopped and his face only hurts a bit. Esmee is a good puncher." Legolas said and we laughed. "Now that I think about it he wants to speak with you." Legolas said. "Come, I'll show the way to his bedroom." Legolas said and we followed him to his father's bedroom. He opened the door and we walked inside. Thranduil was relaxing in his bed and he was reading a book. "How aaaare you, My Lord?" I asked giving him a fake smile. Thranduil gave me a fake smile in return. "Just a bit dizzy." He said sighing and placing his book next to him on the bed. "You wanted to talk to us?" Noa asked and Thranduil nodded. "First off, I want to apologize for slamming you against the wall, Noa. I snapped and that was unacceptable." Thranduil said with a genuine tone. "Apology accepted, My Lord." Noa said and I rolled my eyes. "Second off, I don't want to see you two near the dungeons, is that clear?" He asked and we nodded. "Good, that was it. You may take your leave now." Thranduil said and we bowed. We walked out the room and I immediately turned to Noa. "You said you weren't going to forgive him for what he had done!" I exclaimed and Noa sighed. "I know! It was just his eyes. The way they looked at me and just how genuine his voice sounded like he actually meant it!" Noa exclaimed.
"You love him." I said and Noa looked at me with big eyes. "What are you talking about?" She asked and I laughed. "Come on, don't deny it! I've seen the way you look at him!" I said and Noa huffed. "Well, I've seen how you look at Legolas! You are in love with him!" Noa said crossing her arms. "No I'm not!" I exclaimed and Noa laughed. "See, we're both denying it!" Noa said. "That is a confession." I said and Noa groaned. "I can't help it that he's the hottest person alive!" Noa yelled and we walked to my room. On our way there the warning bell went off. "What the hell?" Noa exclaimed.
A few guards passed us with Legolas. "Legolas, what's happening?" I asked. "Your friends are gone." Legolas said and I looked at Noa worriedly. "Fuck..." I said sighing.
