(Esmee's POV)
The cell I was currently sitting in was dark. Only a bit of light entered through the bars of the cell door. I leaned against the wall and deeply sighed. I was so sick of this place! I looked at the other figure in the cell. Joriam sat on the other side of the cell with his eyes closed.
I stood up and walked towards the cell door and peeked through the bars. Nobody was around not even an elven guard. I deeply sighed and softly banged my head against the iron bars.
"What are you doing?" I heard Joriam ask behind me. "Nothing." I answered. "Why are you so mad all of the sudden?" Joriam asked standing up. I shot a glare at him so he wouldn't come any closer. "Because I learned the truth about you."
Joriam huffed and rolled his eyes. "You know nothing, Esmee. My brother may have spilled that I killed someone but you don't know the half of it!" He gritted behind teeth. "That someone was your mother! How could you kill your own mother?!" I exclaimed.
"Keep your voice down, will you?" "I can talk as loud as I want! I don't take orders from murderers!" Joriam charged towards me and pressed me against the bars forcefully.
I felt his breath against my face. "I. Had. No. Choice!" Joriam released me and took a step back. "Why did you kill her?" I asked making Joriam huff again. "Now we're interested, are we?" "I'm just trying to understand why you would do something as cruel as killing your own mother!"
Joriam held his hands up. "Fine but don't interrupt." I nodded and we sat down on the stone ground. "Smaug the dragon had attacked Erebor and we had built a new home in the Blue Mountains. I was wandering around when I got captivated by orcs. One of the orcs was Azog. I was very shocked to see him because Thorin had said he had killed him. They told me that I had to make a sacrifice because my brother had sliced off his arm. He told me to kill the person Thorin loves most. I refused and said I would never kill my own mother. Obviously it was very, very stupid to mention my mother was the person Thorin loved most but I just blurted it out. They told me that if I wouldn't kill her they would but first they would torture her. I felt like I had no other choice. I couldn't let her be tortured by orcs and then killed. I felt like I was just doing what was best."
I was shocked, I was honestly shocked. I didn't know what to say. "Fucking hell." I whispered earning a frown from Joriam. "Sorry." I quickly added. "Sorry for what?" He asked. "Sorry for your loss, sorry for thinking I knew everything, sorry for being forced to kill her, I'm really sorry." Joriam simply smiled at me.
"Did your father never listen to your story?" I asked and Joriam shook his head. "I don't blame him. I killed his wife, I wouldn't take well to that either." "And Thorin?" Joriam sighed deeply. "I tried to tell him but he would always interrupt. He hates me." I placed my and on his arm. "Maybe he'll listen to you one day. If you keep trying one day you'll succeed. I'm sure that when Thorin hears the full story he'll understand."
"You think?" Joriam asked and I nodded.
(Linde's POV)
I sat on my bed reading a book. I couldn't concentrate on the words and my mind was running wild with plans to get the dwarves out of the cells. The door opened and Noa entered. "Hey, are you okay? You seem a bit troubled." I said with slight concern. Noa sat down next to me. "I need to tell you something." She began.
"Do you remember when I had that nightmare?" She asked and I nodded. I played out the scene in my mind. Noa was crying and her body trembling. I shook it off when Noa continued speaking. "I've been having that nightmare more often. I'm scared." I frowned at her. "Do you already know who the figure in the fire is?" I asked and she nodded. "I'm afraid so, it's Sauron." She said and my heart nearly stopped.
