Naming

Niamh has now been moved upstairs onto the mother and baby ward, she is currently sleeping but Joe is still mesmerised by his son.

He stands by the cot and smiles happily, "hello wee man" he smiles.
Joe strokes his sons little fist as he's sleeping with his hands in fists.
"You are just adorable aren't you?" he smiles happily.

Niamh stirs a little and Joe looks over at her. "Joe?" she mumbles.

"Yes babe?" He says.

She looks over at him as he walks over to her and sits next to her on the bed. Niamh rolls onto her back and sits up a little, Joe rests his hand on Niamh's knee and smiles at her. "How you feeling babe?" he smiles.

Niamh rubs her face "I feel like crap" she mumbles, "I ache everywhere" she adds

"Oh dear, you do look quite pale" he says as he kisses her cheek.

Niamh gives him a faint smile then looks over at her son, "can I see him" she says.

"Of course you can" he smiles as he gets up and goes over to the baby boy and carefully lifts him out for Niamh as he is sleeping.

He walks over to Niamh and sets him down in her arms, Niamh's heart melts and she smiles down at him "Oh my gosh Joe" She says as she gets a little overwhelmed.

"He's adorable ain't he? Joe smiles happily. "He's got your nose Niamh" Joe smiles.

Niamh gives a soft giggle and smiles happily at Joe. "He needs a name" Niamh smiles as she looks down at her son in her arms.

"You're right he does, so tell me what names do you like?" Joe asks.

Niamh looks down at her son in his arms "Something that suits him" she smiles.

"Well obviously" Joe smiles and laughs a little.

She looks up at him and giggles, "Merry Christmas by the way" she smiles.

"I was wondering when you was going to say that, earlier you was off your face on drugs" Joe smiles.

Niamh giggles and smiles at him, "well Merry Christmas to you too babe" he smiles as he kisses her cheek.

"So Joe what names do you like?" Niamh questions.

"I like Matthew" Joe smiles.

Niamh thinks to herself and looks down at her son in her arms, "Hmm Matthew?...I think it suits him" Niamh smiles.

"Do you like it?" Joe asks.

"I love it" Niamh smiles.

Joe smiles, "I'm glad you do but what about a middle name?" he asks.

Niamh smiles and nods "what about James? Has a ring to it Matthew James Walsh" she smiles.

Joe smiles, "I think it suits him well" he smiles as he kisses Niamh's head.

"Matthew James Walsh it is then" Niamh smiles as she looks up at Joe.

Joes smiles and looks at Matthew, "hello wee man" he smiles as he strokes his fist again. Niamh smiles at Joe and they both look at Matthew together.

Emma come back into to check on Niamh. "Hey, just thought I should come and check on you and see if you have a name for this little man" Emma smiles.

"We do indeed" Niamh smiles.

"So what's he called" Emma says as she walks over to Niamh and looks at Matthew in her arms.

"Matthew James Walsh" Niamh smiles.

Emma smiles "so are you two married? I mean I know who you both are but I'm just curious" she asks.

Niamh giggles, "no we aren't" she smiles.

Joe smiles "well we was just friends but maybe friends with a bit to much love for each other" Joe smirks as he watches Matthew.

Niamh blushes and giggles, "Well aren't you a cutie? Can I have a hold?" Emma questions.

Niamh smiles and nods and passes Matthew over to Emma. Niamh shifts a little in the bed and watches her, "Have you fed him yet?" Emma questions.

Niamh looks at Emma nervously, "no" she stutters.

"You really need to feed him he's three hours old he needs a good feed" Emma says.

"Okay" Niamh says as Emma passes Matthew back to her.

Emma smiles "do you want any help with it?" Emma question.

Joe gives Niamh's shoulder a rub for reassurance as he knows she's nervous. Niamh looks up at him and gives a faint smile, "erm yes please, I mean I haven't a clue what I'm doing" she says slightly embarassed.

Emma smiles at her, "it's alright it's your first time I'm expecting you to say that" she giggles as she stands next to Niamh.

"I'm suprised he hasn't started crying for a feed yet" Emma smiles.

Niamh gives a nervous laugh and looks at Joe who gives her a reassuring smile. "Niamh I can feel your nerves" Joe laughs. "It'll be alright, Emma will help you" he smiles.

Niamh nods and looks down at Matthew who's obviously getting hungry. "Right Niamh looks like someone is getting hungry, so let's give it a go yeah?" Emma says and Niamh nods nervously.

Niamh rolls her top up and brings Matthew closer, she nervously looks up at Emma who guides Niamh. "Let him become used to you, it's the only way he will latch" Emma smiles as she tells Niamh not to panic.

Niamh brings him closer and let's Matthew get a feel of it and he starts to whimper and move a little.
