I was fireside beneath your eyes, warm and in love. Your eyes were gray but reflected yellow and red flames. You looked at me and you smiled but what the hell is a smile when it never stays? The light in your eyes became evil and I saw the devil resting in every blink. I saw the future in every breath you took of the smoke filled air. I wanted the future to be as bright as the fire but when you left you took away the flame and heat and all that was left was oxygen, but still I could barely breathe. The intoxication in your smile burnt me out and all that remains is smoke. My lungs turned black and my smile receded when you walked out that door. The fire burnt out and so did we. Forever died in the flames and rose with the smoke that I choked on. I went on the roof to catch the last breath of you coming out the chimney. The bricks were cracked and burnt, resembling my mind that night.
And then the blood in my veins turned to the same fire in your eyes, setting the rest of me on fire every time you said my name.
