Saphirs POV
The morning has been quiet, not counting the incident with Noir that made the ice under me almost completely consume my being. He didn't show up to class and nobody seemed to care, so I ignored it too. Only at lunch did I see him, lurking in the shadows of the lunch room. He seemed uneasy, but alert.
Minding my own business I continued to eat the lunch my mother had packed me, the food here was inedible... like lard or something, they claim its supposed to keep the students that are in scout teams healthy, but its disgusting. The people here are weird too, their code of conduct is erratic, and looks separated. Not one species mixes with another, they stay where they feel comfortable.
I sat on the ledges of the windows, keeping my distance and observing this new world my mother put me in. My little brother was sitting on the far sides of the room, conversing with a group of mixed kids that looked fun. I felt I was being watched, so I scoped around more, but nothing turned up.
At that moment the bell rang, loud and annoying, making me drop down from the ledges and head to my class. Ever since they signed me up for the teams yesterday, they changed my schuedule, so now I have Combat Training 101, my last period being On Sight 101 class. As I was heading to my class I couldnt help but think about all the trouble the teams were going to cause me. These people are going to be the ONE thing that get me detected on radar. I have been running away from my scout in general days for a few years, and the fact my name turned up in those lists may get me in trouble.
Combat Training 101 and On Sight 101 are just fancy terms for scouting teams, these are kids that get trained in multiple abilities. From combat, to weapon mastery, to war. We are trained to protect the different dimensions of reality. I was my fathers lead general at only 11 years, and my mother took us away from all of that wanting to protect my brother from turning the same. When we finally settled away from it all I made a promise to my mother never to go back unless I had no other choice.
When I walked into the class room, a dark face met mine at the door,
"What are YOU doing HERE??", Noir was real close, eyes redder than before, I pushed past him and handed my ticket in to the teacher.
"Ah yes Miss Winchester, you're our new recruit, please do take a seat." , I looked back as I walked to the empty seat at the back,
'Does that answer your question?'. I saw him narrow his eyes and walk to the seat next to mine,
"So you got recruited?, what kind of person would put your name on our ranks?", He was getting on my nerves, so I started paying attention to the actual class,
"I will start to assign teams in a second. Know that this is the only time I will assign them, and no matter who I pick you must stay with. You will first beguin in a two man squad and later new recruits will be assigned to your original team.", He started handing out papers, and one by one each and every student paired up with their commrade.
My paper was blank, wich was a little confusing. "Some of you, have been refferenced to be by yourself on the battlefield for the time being, you will later be assigned into teams. For now, all of you may get to know your teams. Noir, Miss Winchester if you may please follow me?",
I got up thinking about how to explain this to my mother, squads would be let loose in less than a week. And it would show up in the mail, my mother would not aproove... unless I broke it down slow. He took us to a room, with a desk and a library like physique.
"Im going to break this to you in a way I understand your generation will take well. Both of your papers have turned up blank, the reason being the rank both of you have, now... you may have the option of pairing up together.."
