Beep, beep, beep...

My alarm clock pulled me from the black void that was called sleep. I hardly ever dreamed, but when I did it had the uncanny happening of become true.

My mom then opened my bedroom door and walked in carrying breakfast on a tray.

"Happy birthday honey," She smiled at me before putting the tray down on my lap.

My mom kissed my head and left me to my breakfast of pancakes.

I gobbled them up quickly, brushing the cinnamon off my PJs.

I showered quickly and got dressed casually for school, putting on a necklace a boy long ago had given me. It was a moonstone pendant on a silver chain, it was so pretty and felt right when I wore it that I hardly ever took it off.

Moments later I was out the door with my car keys in hand, them clinking as I skipped in the driveway over to the driver door. I unlocked the car door and hopped in, throwing my bag on the passenger seat. I pulled slowly out the drive and went in the familiar direction of school.

I parked my Volvo in the far side of the parking lot and went in search of Jessica. I didn't find Jess... She found me. She handed me a small box and I gave her a one-armed hug, the present in my other hand. I hadn't asked for gifts, but she obviously didn't listen.

I tore at the grey paper and grinned at the novel in my hands. She had made a hardcover copy of the book I had written. It wasn't published, but it wasn't meant to be.

I hugged her again, and arm in arm we walked into school as the parking lot filled with cars and people rushing to get the rest of the year done with.

After suffering through half the day I sighed when the lunch bell rang.

Walking to the lunch hall people gathered about the hallways talking about how their mid-year holiday had been. It was just as loud in the cafeteria.

I saw Jess heading towards our usual spot next to her boyfriend, Ryan Wheel.

Jess motioned me over, so I filled my tray with pizza and went to sit next to her at the white, round table. Ryan wished me happy birthday and also handed me a gift.

Jeez, these people never listened when I say I don't want gifts.

They smiled sheepishly, already knowing my thought.

This present had both their names on it.

Again I tore at the paper to find a white box. Inside was a silver and moonstone bracelet

"I thought it would match your necklace," Jess said, eyeing the chain around my neck, and it did.

Lunch was over all too soon and we departed until after school where we said our goodbyes quickly and left.

I opened our front door and the smell of burnt cookies drifted through the house to my nose.
I ran to the kitchen, my mom never burnt cookies...

I didn't see her at first, but as I moved further into the kitchen I spotted her, unconscious on the floor with her hands tied behind her back with rope.

"Mom!" I screamed and rushed to her dropping down at her side.
My hands suddenly felt sticky and warm, I hoped it wasn't what I thought it was, but it was... logic told me it was exactly that... blood draining the life from my mother's body covered my hands.

I started sobbing and called 911, the lady asking me to repeat what i had said several times becasue she struggled to hear me through my sobs.
I tried to find where the blood was coming from, and when I found it another round of sobs shook through me.
It was a knife in her side, the blade covered in a flame design.

911 arrived and then only did I think of something. DAD!
Mom's eyes fluttered open as I started calling his name.

She looked at me sadly before gaining energy and pulling the blade out her side, she handed it to me. "Run, run as fast as you can, they're coming, run far, they killed him too, with this. Get them back for me Princess. You have to be brave now..."

Then her eyes closed and her breathes became faint.
The ambulance took her away and I stayed at home, the knife still in my hand, the police had tried prying it out of my hand but I had held on, eventually they had left.
She was dead, I could feel it, in my heart.

Later that night I lay in my bed, the house cold without my parents warm laughter.
I slid deeper into the covers, feeling more alone.

I hoped what my mom had said before she... I started sobbing again.
I hoped the they she spoke of didn't come back tonight for me.

I closed my eyes hoping I would slip into my black void of dreamless sleep.
But, something different happened that night... I dreamed.

I was sitting in the chair in my room, facing the window, waiting for something to happen, but what?
Then a knock on my window made me jump. A rock appeared against the window the fell again.
I walked over to the window.
In the back yard was a boy with brown hair and brown eyes stared at my hazel ones.
I opened the window and he started climbing up the cobblestone walls.
He gracefully dived into my room.
He started packing my bags for me and the helped me down the side of the house.
Shrieks followed us.
"Run as fast as you can, they're coming." the boy said quoting my mother's last words...

I woke with a start, sweat running down my back.
That was my first dream I've had in a while, and it was horrible...
I lay back again, looking at the window and slowly drifted off again

My alarm beeped an woke me from my safe void. Then the events of yesterday came crashing down in me... My mother's death, my father's disappearance, the dream, and the 'they'.

I shuddered and slowly got up, then when I was sure I wasn't going to have a mental break down I got ready as quick as humanly possible and left for school, leaving the cold house. But this time, the feeling of being watched never left. was it the 'they'? i questioned in my mind.

I relaxed backwards in registerr, Jess telling me about how Ryan had bought her a new pair of shoes, not knowing about what had happened yesterday.

A knock on the door caught the teachers attention, and mine. She opened the door and someone walked in.

I gasped, as brown eyes landed on me.

It was the boy from my dream...
