I looked at my best friend.
This can't be... Jess was a faerie?! My best friend was a faerie!!! And she'd kept this secret from me.

"Leave her alone fire prince! We want no war, only peace, but you need to leave my friend, my princess alone!" Jess yelled into the shadowy mix of my power.

I let the shadows drop and Kade fell backward hitting his head.
I turned to Jess and she went into a bow.
"I see the fire has told you your majesty."

I laughed, and they both looked at me confused.
"Get up, there will be no 'your majesty' with me Jess, your my friend, even if I am a princess, you are my friend."

I turned and poked the now standing Kade, who was rubbing the back of his head, in the chest, "You sir, though have a lot of explaining to do." and he nodded backing away from Jess.

And so that's how I found out I was a faerie, and how I was bound to a crown.

~~~
Being alone in a house wasn't scary... No not at all... It was bloody terrifying!
Jess had left an hour earlier, saying she had somewhere to be, leaving me all alone.
Jess was my 'watcher', a guard stationed to watch nobility in the human world.
#She was also the water princess, yeah that's right, my BFF was a princess... but to be fair... so was I... that sounded cooler before I realized I too was a princess... whoops.
Aura, the realm of the faeries, was an overlapping world.
The world wasn't in reality, nor a place on a map.
It was in a different dimension if you could put it that way.
In this realm were different countries,
Ashfelid for the fires, Lagoon for the waters, Forest for the Earth, Cloudan for the airs, and last Dreamen for the shadows... but let me not forget the forgotten land... OMS this makes no sense!!!... Tenabris
Dreamen was the country smack bang in the middle, it was the biggest country followed by Ashfelid.
I was asked by the lesser kings and queens to come to Dreamen, to take up the throne, and collect my father's body... Yes, that's right, they had killed him to strike fear into Aura. And me...
They had delivered his body, burnt to a crisp from the sounds of the reports, and with a note.
It had said,
Dearest princess, my kingdom and I have come to an agreement, you must marry one of my sons, or else we will destroy your kingdom like we destroyed your father. I see my son, Kaden has visited you, he has offered to be the first to take your hand, may you refuse either him or my younger son Brandon, your kingdom will suffer...
Yeah, I was going to be forced to marry at the age of eighteen. Fun.
And that's when I heard it, the rock hitting my window, and as my dream predicted, Kade was here and was going to take me to Aura.
As quick as my dream was it took longer in reality, probably because I wanted to make sure I had everything.
We hopped out the window, and that's when I heard it, the whispers.
"Run, they're coming..." and from out of the hedge that surrounded the house came black faceless monsters.
THAT WAS THE THEY, I practically vomited, they smelled of who knows what, but it was horrible.
Kade turned and fired golden orbs of fire at them, one caught alight and burnt to a crisp, making the smell worse.
It smelled like burnt flesh.
More appeared as we neared the wood's boarder. They surrounded us, and Kade tried to fend them off.
"My father, he, ah, didn't think you'd agree with his terms so he sent these after you."
I nodded. I looked at Kade, oh great I hoped I had make the right choice with my decision. Marry Kade or his brother.
Yeah, Kade looked like the right choice.
I sighed and Kade blasted another creature with fire.
"You no, these creatures are called Shadow Roamers, you could help me with them."
Oh, right, I wasn't a defenseless human.
I called out to my shadows and enclosed the Shadow Roamers in a wave of black.
Their screams pierced the night, telling tales of pain and terror.
As soon as the screaming stopped, I dropped my wave.
Bodies lay scattered around us.
Kade bent down and put his hand to the earth.
I gasped as all the bodies burst into tiny fires.
He nodded and we walked further into the woods, towards the waterfall, or more likely used as a portal to Aura.
Every waterfall, every wave in the ocean, and every lake, was a portal, a portal to my realm, Aura.
The fae legend was that waters were the shadows most trusted allies, so the shadows presented the waters with the key to portals to the human world so they could escape the fires, then one day, a water betrayed his race, and showed the other races the trick to opening the portals, and soon the races flooded the human world, generations losing the faerie power as the mixed with the humans.
Kade walked up to the water fall and traced a markings across the water, leaving lines of fire as his hand touched the water.
The water lit up and started to swirl in a circle. Kade grinned at himself.
"Come on, times a wasting." he held out his hand to me, which I took hesitantly.
We stepped up to the waterfall, and most of splash created from the water hitting the rocks turned gold and was sucked into the portal.
We stepped though and it felt as if tiny bits of electricity were shocking my skin, it didn't hurt but it tickled.
I looked to Kade, it seemed to be hurting him.
It hit me that this was a waters power and water and fire were opposites.
It didn't hurt for me because my race had given the waters this ability.
Then everything went white and I dropped to the floor.
It burned like hell.
I was being taken apart in this dimension and being put together in another.
Light flashed and I opened my eyes to a new destination.
I stood up and looked around.
We stood atop a hill, behind us and arch loomed with swirls, the swirls resembled that of the waterfalls.
I could see everything from this view.
A river ran through the town of white buildings.
There were many alleyways and shadows, well this was Dreamen, kingdom of the shadows.
We walked down the hill and there stood a group of men in red and black.
Fires.
As Kade had mentioned to me, all nobility wore the colours of their race.
Fires-red, waters-blue, earths-green, airs-white and shadows-purple.
The two men that were at the head if the group wore crowns.
The king and his one son, the other son was holding my hand.
"Father." Kade greeted his father.
His father ignored him and turned his gaze to me.
"Beautiful. She will do good for you. So Miss Night, do you wish to accept my deal in order to save your kingdom?"
I looked at Kade next to me and then turned back to the king.
"I accept."
