I haven't stopped thinking about what he did, or where he did it, even after I started crying again. But, Seokmin did his best (and succeeded) in trying to cheer me up.
He sang me a song and pretended to play the guitar while singing it to me. It was honestly one fo the greatest things I've ever experienced in my life. It was Sweet Girl by B1A4.
Now, we're waiting for Seungcheol and whomever has chosen to join him. It's still raining and the scent of rain is amazingly strong. It's silent, other than the sound of rain hitting the puddles and surfaces.
"You know what's crazy?" He asks quietly and I turn over to face him, allowing my eyes to wander all over his face. Every curve and hue of his face is so spectacular. He's proof that Jesus is real.
"What?"
He turns over to me suddenly and his face is just as bright as it always is; dazzling and beautiful.
"It's our junior year and we've barely met." His voice is soft. What is he trying to imply?
I tilt my head and don't know what to tell him, since I hadn't even known we went to the same school. He smiles lightly and those tiny crinkles by his eyes form.
"I noticed you when we were both in our freshman year. It was my first day of school in America. I barely knew any English and ironically, my first class was English. Haha, funny, right?" There's a small smile on my face as I listen to him talk.
His stare lingers a bit and runs his tongue over his lips again. VIXX would suit him right now.
Seokmin looks down and looks down at both of our hands, which are incidentally right next to each other's.
"I was late that day and when I got there, I was scared. There were so many judging eyes and they scared me. The teacher, too, but. . ." He places his large hand on top of mine but surprisingly, I don't pull it away.
"I saw you, Maxima Sandoval," he looks up at me, "I saw you and that cute little smile you offered me. It was warm and bright, like the sun. That super, super cute smile of yours made my day, even though I was actually in the wrong class."
My heart beats faster in my chest and my face is hot. No, no. Oh, my God. I had braces then. Please stop.
But I remember. My aunt had bought me a huge Pulparindo that she had gotten from her cousin in Mexico. I was feeling a little sympathetic to people so I was smiling literally at everyone. Maybe I had done so to him.
That day, I was punched in the mouth by a girl, who thought I had called her ugly. Jokes on her, I had braces.
"Max," he leans in closer and holds my hand. "I've seen you through the years; in the halls, on the fields, and in your classroom. You've made it this far, so don't give up."
I am about to start questioning whatever he's going to continue because I'm beginning to get confused but he pulls me in a hug. Another one.
He messes with my hair and hums softly as he does so. "You deserve so much, sunshine. The universe is around you and it may just ignore your existence at time, but baby, life would sure suck if you didn't exist."
My eyes sting again and I put my head on his chest.
"Why do you care about me so much?" My question sounds disgruntled.
He breathes differently and swallows hard, hesitating to answer, but is saved when the familiar sight of the van appears. We pull away with heated up faces and try to scoot away from each other.
The van comes to a sudden halt and the doors immediately swing open. Yes, plural. Seungcheol is not alone.
It's Seungkwan, Minghao, Seungcheol, Chan, Jeonghan, and Hansol. My face gets even hotter as they run over to us but Seungcheol and Jeonghan stay behind, walking.
Seungkwan waves as he runs to me before pulling me into yet another hug. I do not deserve these hugs. How preposterous.
He smells like candy. "Hello, Max!" Seungkwan screams into my ear and I want to laugh.
"Hey! B-back off! She's mine!" I hear and Seungkwan is ripped off of me. Chan stands right next to him, breathing heavily but with a sweet smile on his face.
"Hi, pretty-pretty!" He says and I shake my head. Jeez, are these guys blind?
"I-I'm not―"
Minghao is right next to me in a flash and has this cute grin on his face. "Hello, are you doing well?" He asks and bats his eyelashes at me, puckering his lips slightly.
Seungcheol slaps Hansol on the back and I accidentally let out a laugh at the sight of both of their faces as Jeonghan begins to applaud suddenly.
Seungkwan tries to squeeze in between me and Seokmin, and he gives me a creeper look. "Can we sleepover, boo?" He questions and I am honestly just speechless. What the heck is my aunt supposed to say? What am I supposed to say?
"Um―" I'm interrupted by Chan giving me a back hug until Seungcheol begins to scold them in Korean.
I understand the following:
- pabo, which means fool
- dak-cho, which means shut up
- jot, which means dick
Let's just say, the rest was a bunch of curse words.
Instinctively, I lean my head on Seokmin's arm since I'm way too short for his shoulder and close my eyes until I hear, "SEOKMIN AND MAX ARE TOGE-D-ER?!"
If I were to be really honest, I wish that were true, but it's not.
