"Wow so some day I'll get to become a warrior?" I asked as we padded back towards camp.
"That's right, you might even get an apprentice of your own if you're lucky." Batstrike replied.
I scampered up beside him, "Am I your first apprentice?" I asked.
Batstrike shook his head, "No I've had two others before you, Silverfox was my last apprentice and I had one before her. My first one went rogue, such a disappointment." He sighed.
We continued to walk along the pine trees, "I can't believe there are two other clans, we were always afraid to come near these woods. My mother said foxes never came out of here once they got in.."
The black tom sighed and looked at me, "I'm sorry to tell you that most foxes are killed. We can't have them attacking our kits."
I hung my head, "Not all foxes aren't the heartless monsters you make the, out to be."
"Oh trust me, they are. You got lucky the fox that raised you found you first. I'm nearly positive that if another fox came along you would be crow food."
"How do you know it would have attacked me?"
"I just do.." Batstrike replied sadly. The rest of the journey was quite. We finally reached the pine trees that surrounded our camp and Batstrike turned to me, "Today was easy, your real training starts tomorrow. I would recommend getting to know your den mates since you will be sharing a den with them for now and when you're warriors."
"Ok I will, see you tomorrow." I meowed then separated from him. Batstrike told me the apprentices den was on far left of the camp beside the nursery. I carefully trotted across camp and stuck my head in.
"Welcome to the apprentices den! Hehe sorry for attacking you earlier." Honeypaw purred.
I shrugged, "It's ok I guess I did kind of seem like a fox... Well I thought I was actually but still."
Honeypaw stared at me in awe, "What was it like living with foxes? Were they mean? I heard they were really vicious!"
I rolled my eyes and sat down, "No they aren't savages at all... My mother and brother were amazing. My mums name was Virgo and my brothers name was Leo."
"Wow pretty names, do you like your new name Foxpaw?" She asked waving her tail side to side.
"Will you two shut up? I have an early dawn patrol tomorrow." Lynxpaw hissed from his nest.
"Jeez why do you always have to be so grouchy?" She retorted.
Lynxpaw slumped back into his nest, "Why do you have to be so annoying?"
I sat silently in the corner, I had never had any friends other then Leo and didn't know how to deal with these guys.
"Do you?" Honeypaw repeated.
"Hmm? Oh yes I like it. I miss my old name but now I'll never forget my family." I replied.
Lynxpaw glared at us from his nest and I flattened my ears and my eyes softened. He stared at me for a while before turning his gaze down.
"Don't let him get to you, he's always like that. Here you nest is next to mine!" Honeypaw purred pawing at a mossy clump.
I sniffed it then curled up. I poked my head from under my belly, "This is really soft, sometimes Virgo would put pieces of rabbit fur in our nests."
"The sooner you forget being a dumb fox the better, you're a cat like us." Lynxpaw said.
I grumbled, "I don't want to I love them... losing kin is the worst feeling in the world." I sighed.
