Lynxpaw froze and he close his one icy-blue eye then hung his head. "Lynxpaw..."I trailed off.
"Don't look at me, my scars are a sign of my weakness." He growled and rushed into the den. I bolted in after him. He curled up in the corner with his back to me. I looked at his tail, Raindapple had to amputate to about two inches. I sighed and curled up in the nest beside him. Honeypaw walked in and sat in her normal nest.
I had already spent half of the night out by the fungus stump. I stretched and walked outside, the sun was already fully over the horizon. I saw my mentor, Spotstar, Whiteripple, Silverfox, and Lynxpaw all looking at each other. I could sense hostility and padded closer to get a better look.
"What do you mean you don't know you were the last one with her!" Lynxpaw growled.
Batstrike narrowed his eyes, "We went hunting and she never came back when she was going to 'find a rabbit' don't look at me."
"Calm down both of you, we could just go send out a patrol to find her." Spotstar growled.
"What did you do to my mother!?" Lynxpaw snarled at Batstrike.
Silverfox shoved herself between them, "That's enough Lynxpaw, maybe she is still looking for a rabbit lets go track her down."
Lynxpaw glared at Batstrike then followed his mentor out of camp. I padded up to my mentor and nudged my nose to his shoulder, "I know you wouldn't hurt her."
Batstrike frowned and looked where Lynxpaw and Silverfox left, "I know and I'm grateful for that, but my son thinks I'm some sort of murderer."
"Can we go hunting again? I want to make up for the prey we forgot yesterday." I suggested to change the subject.
"Lets go." He replied then quickly led me out of camp.
"D-Did that have to do with what happened last night?" I whispered.
Batstrike was silent and he quickened his pace, "I hear a mouse, show me your hunting skills."
I rolled my eyes and got into a hunters crouch and stalked towards to a bush. I leaped up and went stiff then landed on it and killed it with my claws.
"Good, next time I would get closer to it before you pounce."
"Thanks." I purred and buried the mouse.
Batstrike looked really jittery and sad. "Are you sure there's nothing wrong?"
"Yes its just adrenaline from yesterday." he explained.
"Oh StarClan please don't tell me he was involved in that..."
Batstrike jumped up in the air and snagged a sparrow. I stared at him impressed, "Wow nice jump."
"Let's get this prey back to camp before we lose it again." Batstrike laughed.
I smiled and picked up my mouse then trotted after him. "I wonder how Leo is holding up, I hope he is alright."
"You are not one of us!" The foxes voice rang in my ears like a crows caw.
I looked at my paws as I walked. "If I'm not Virgo's birth daughter, whose birth daughter am I?"
Batstrike dropped his prey at the entrance and stared with eyes wide. I ran to his side to see what was wrong. My ears flattened and my eyes started to water when I saw Reedwind's lifeless body in the center of camp. There was a huge claw mark on the side of his body, to big to be a cats.
"My mate is dead!" Rivershimmer wailed. "O-Our future kits..!" She broke off and started to cry.
Redfern rested her head on the pregnant she-cats shoulder. I looked around terrified, "W-What happened to him?"
