The next morning me and Batstrike had gone hunting. I had successfuly taken down a squirrel and my mentor had two robins.
I noticed my mentor looked at the ground unhappy. "Is something wrong Batstrike?" I asked.
"Hmm? Oh no no I'm fine don't worry about it." He purred putting on a fake smile.
I frowned unconvinced but didn't argue. "Do you think FireClan and LightningClan are going to fight?" I asked.
Batstrike shrugged, "Don't know, if they are wise they will equally distribute territory."
"Why did they steal it in the first place?" I asked.
"Some things are hard to explain to apprentices Foxpaw. I'm going to assume it was out of hunger but greed could have helped out too."
Batstrike's large ears stretched up, "Do you hear that?"
"No? What do you hear?" I asked.
"It sounds like a border patrol, follow and stay close to me. If we get into trouble remember the training I've given you." He replied seriously and bolted off.
I ran after him with my hackles risen, "Will this be my first battle? I hope I don't screw things up!"
As I followed my mentor through the dewy morning grass the faded echoes of yowling became clearer. We swerved around a tree and my eyes widened, our patrol was fighting.
"F-FireClan or LightningClan?" I asked shakily.
My mentor had wide eyes, "B-Both, quickly go fetch reinforcements!" he ordered then sprang into battle. I gulped but didn't want to disobey him, I turned around and pelted back towards camp. I dropped my squirrel and ran with all of my power. The dried pine needles brushed through my pelt when I busted through the entrance.
I took a deep breath before running over to Spotstar's den. I didn't know if I was allowed inside or not so i just stood outside, "S-Spotstar! Our patrol is being attacked where the three clans borders meet!"
The golden brown leader immediately poked his head out of the den, "Those little... run ahead quickly I'll be there with help soon."
I panted a bit before turning to run back. I nearly ran over Lynxpaw and the apprentice looked at me shocked, "What's wrong?"
"Got to go... attack.." I huffed then bolted past him.
I managed to hear paw-steps behind me muffled by my panting. Lynxpaw was following me, "What? Think I'm not going to fight?" He muttered then ran beside me.
I rolled my eyes and kept going, how could they team on us of all cats? I thought they hated each other why were they going for us?
The only thought in my mind was helping my clan. We reached the area where the borders merged and I froze when I saw the chaos.
Within seconds I was slammed into the chaos. A massive black tom was towering over me, sinking his claws into my limps. I started lashing out at him but it was no use.
"Foxpaw!" Lynxpaw yowled and tackled him off.
I stared in horror as Lynxpaw took him on by himself. I shook my head and started slashing at him from behind. Lynxpaw was dodging and striking from the front and I attacked from the back.
There were so many of them, we were heavily outnumbered. My fur bristled and I pounced on the black tom. "Frozenheart!" he hissed.
"I'm coming Shadowblitz!" a grey tom growled and slammed into my friend. I narrowed my eyes and sunk my fangs into Shadwblitz's shoulders.
