My heart warmed as I saw Leopardsnow curled around Silverfox and their three newborn kits. Raindapple had me watch over them as she got supplies for Leopardsnow's injuries.
"They're beautiful." I whispered.
Silverfox had teary eyes, "Yes they are. Dear what should we name them?" She meowed looking back at her mate.
"The firstborn should be named Shadowkit because of his pure-black pelt." He weakly rasped. Silverfox nodded "What about the other two?"
Silverfox had given birth to two toms and one tiny she-cat. I crouched down and saw them suckling from her belly.
"The second-born tom should be named Jaykit." He said looking at the pale silver tabby tom. Jaykit had two black spots over his left eye and three over his right.
Raindapple padded in and started putting herbs on the tom. I could tell that Leopardsnow was desperately trying to hide the searing pain. "You pick the last name, you did go through the pain of giving birth to them.
Silverfox looked down at her smallest kit and only she-kit. She had a beautiful fluffy white pelt with silver paws and a silver tipped tail. She had a single tiny black dot on the back of her neck
"Her fur is a bright white like yours. How about Skykit?" Silverfox whispered.
"Beautiful name." Leopardsnow purred as he winced. "Raindapple go help the others."
"Leopardsnow you are in critical condition!" The medicine cat growled.
Leopardsnow let out a amused huff, "I won't be here for much longer, I used up to last of my energy coming here. Please go help the other warriors before their wounds get infected." The warrior meowed.
Silverfox turned her head with tears streaming down her face, "Please stay here with me Leopardsnow I know you can do it."
"It's my time my love, I will watch over you and our beautiful kits in Starclan...." He rasped and closed his eyes.
I gasped and tears started streaming down my face, "What a warriors way to die!"
"No...NO! Leopardsnow keep fighting!" Silverfox wailed.
Shadowkit let out a high mewl and Silverfox turned to him and nuzzled his head. Raindapple touched the queens face, "It was his time, some times all the herbs in the forest can't save a cat."
"L-Leopardsnow..." Silverfox whimpered and buried her face into his neck.
Raindapple finished checking the kits, "A perfectly healthy litter Silverfox, I will give you some time alone."
I followed the medicine cat out of the den to give the queen some privacy. "Poor Silverfox, her mate was fighting like LionClan out there..."
Raindapple immediately went to work and started patching up the warriors. There was silence in respect for the fallen warrior. Spotstar padded over to Raindapple, the medicine cat shook her head and his tail dropped.
Spotstar dipped his head in respect then padded up to the rock slope. "Cats of IceClan, we have lost one of our best and bravest warriors today. He died the noble death of a warrior and he will be remembered and missed."
Everyone had wide eyes then they hung their heads. "If Honeydew didn't steal Airies I could have returned her and this never would have happened! I hope she rots in the dark forest for this.."
Some warrior had brought Honeydew's body back to camp and it was in the center, "She doesn't deserve a vigil."
Raindapple pressed her paw to her belly, "My mentor told me about this sickness, it's a type of fungus that infects the body and drains their energy until they die of exhaustion."
