Hearing rumors about the mysterious sightings in Wyoming made me all the more excited to move there. The hard part about moving, though, was saying goodbye.

"I'm gonna miss you guys. We'll keep in touch, yeah?" I smiled at my two best friends.

"No!" They shouted.

"Nick, you can't leave us! Who are we supposed to hang with for the next year and a half?" Brent pressed.

"I'm not going to be that far away." I told them, trying to sound convincing. But by the looks they were giving me, I wasn't doing a great job.

"Pssh! Yeah, okay. Georgia to Wyoming. I'll just walk over about four states and I'll be there in a jiffy, don't worry!" My other best friend, Cody, said sarcastically. Just when I was about to reply, I heard someone call my name.

"Nick! Come on, we have to go!" My mom yelled, putting her hands on her hips.

"Okay, I'm coming!" I yelled back. I turned to face my friends again.

"I'll see you guys at Thanksgiving. Mom wants to come back to visit with my aunt." I smiled sadly and went to leave when I was engulfed in one big group hug.

"I'm going to miss you guys too." I chuckled.

On our way there, I thought about my new life in Wyoming. If the teachers were nice, if the students were nice, if it rained a lot. You know, the usual.

Then a different thought came to mind. There could be others in Wyoming like me. God, I hope so, but I have yet to meet one. If there is one there, hopefully they can teach me some things.

My eyelids started to feel heavy as the car rolled on. So, I finally let sleep overtake me.

********************

"Nick." A voice whispered softly while someone shook my shoulder. "Come on sweetie, we're here."

Here? Where's here?

"Come see our new house. It looks like it's nice."

House? I almost forgot. We moved to Wyoming, that's right. Slowly I opened my eyes and got out of the small car. Our new house did look nice but not all that big. It'll have to do for now, though.

This is my new life, so I better get used to it. New state, new house, new lifestyle, new me.

Taking a deep breathe, I stepped forward and walked into the house.

I ran through the woods until I could no longer see my family, or more importantly, they couldn't see me. Once I was positive I was out of sight, I shifted into my wolf.

Wow. It's been a while since I've had a good run. I thought to myself while stretching my stiff muscles.

As I took off running, I couldn't stop thinking of what my dad had said to me when I had asked to go for a "walk" in the forest.

"Hey, Dad. I'm gonna go for a walk around the forest." I said, a skip in my step as I gleefully made my way to the front door.

"Alright, Elizabeth. You just be careful, I don't want my baby girl to get hurt." He said, sighing but knowing I'd be careful. I always was.

I quickly leapt over a fallen tree as I made my way to the place that brought me extreme comfort.

I growled in frustration. Some baby girl I am. For heavens sake, I'm a freak! If they knew what I could do, they wouldn't give a second thought about leaving. I've never told anyone that I'm a werewolf, and I plan to keep it that way. Everyone would think I'm a complete nut job and send me off to some mental facility. I definitely do not want to go there. I mean, I'm not crazy or delusional here people! But if they ever did leave me, I would have this: My wolf and the forest.

I shouldn't be worrying about that stuff though. Today was my 17th birthday and they probably have a party ready at home.

I should probably get back to the house before mom sends a search party. I rolled my eyes. My mom could be such a worry wart.

Turning around, I headed back home with much disappointment. I didn't even get to go to the waterfall or the pond. Mentally pouting, I shifted about 50 yards from the house and walked the rest of the way back. Walking up the porch steps and opening the door, my sensitive ears were hit with:

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ELIZABETH!"

I looked around my house to see my parents, grandparents, and sister all standing there with smiles on their faces, while I was restraining myself from wincing and rubbing my ringing ears.

"Wow! What a surprise!" I said with much less enthusiasm than I wanted. I didn't really want them to know I was expecting something like this to happen. They just looked so happy and I loved seeing them like that. I didn't want to ruin their fun, so to make my act more believable, I put on a shocked and surprised face.

My dad chuckled. "You're such a bad actor."

"Sorry, Dad. I was expecting something like this, but I'm glad you did it anyway." I smiled at him.

"I can't believe my little girl is already seventeen. Why can't you go back to being five so we could have a tea party and wear dresses?"

I giggled. "I love you, Dad." We hugged each other tightly. "But... I am not going back to drinking from those awful tasting plastic tea cups." I finished.

My whole family laughed along with Dad and I. I opened my gifts, which I said wasn't necessary but they made me take them. I basically just got clothes and CDs. They sang "Happy Birthday" to me and then we ate cake.

After we visited and talked for a while, my grandparents had to leave. We said our goodbyes and my parents headed upstairs to bed.
