Chapter 43 - Ben's POV
I burst into a clearing, snarling. I was ready to defend my friends and earn my honor back.
They aren't your friends anymore, though. You treated Elizabeth and Michael like shit. My wolf reminded me.
Right. I shook my head a little as I eyed the six wolves who were staring at me with what looked like smirks. Can wolves even smirk? I guess so. But the question was, what were they smirking for? And where were Eli, Michael and their friends?
A low, feral growl came from behind me, making me spin around, which was another mistake. The six wolves that were now behind me closed in on me, making it impossible to escape. The growl kept coming from the woods but I couldn't find the wolf who held it. Why couldn't I detect where this damn wolf was? I growled in frustration. The wolf only growled louder.
The two wolves that looked identical except for their eyes, one blue and one brown, came up on either side of me and shoved their shoulders into my ribs so I couldn't move. I snapped at them and struggled, but it was no use. I was stuck.
Bushes rustled on the edges of the wood line. A tall black figure stood in the shadows, it's eyes glowing a bright green with such fury and anger that I froze in fear.
Ben. A feminine voice whispered in my head. She sounds so sad, so... hurt.
Why Ben? She asked. What did I ever do to you?
As the voice said this, I watched as the wolf's eyes turned more and more sad and desperate. I then realized that it was the wolf that was talking to me.
Why?
Why what? What did I ever do to her? Hell, I'd never even met this person before. Or had I?
The wolf stepped into the daylight and I was memorized. She was beautiful. Hands down absolutely the most beautiful creature I'd ever seen. Her black coat shined in the afternoon sun, making it look glossy and smooth which I'm sure it was anyway. She was so tall that I had to look up at her. She must've been almost 2 feet taller than every wolf here. But still, something about her was almost... familiar.
Did I know her?
Yes. I used to know you very well and you I.
I barked in shock and confusion. She could read my mind! I was starting to get freaked out but then I had an idea. I growled up at her, warningly. I tried to look scary and intimidating. Key word being tried.
Where did you take those teenagers?
I didn't take them. I didn't even touch them. Maybe you should look around harder, Ben. There were seven teenagers and there's... how many wolves out here with you? She taunted me.
Seven. I gulped.
Very good, Ben. Nice to see you're still somewhat smart. She snickered darkly.
A light grey wolf came up to her and stood on her right. The Beta. He reached up and licked her snout. She purred in contentment before straightening up and facing me again with narrowed eyes. Another wolf came up on her left. The Third In Command. He snarled fiercely at me, making me flinch back. What's his problem? His fur was a very dark grey, but it was still nowhere near the she-wolf's black coat. His hazel and gold eyes burned with rage and disgust as he glared daggers into me.
