Chapter 55
"How are you feeling?" I asked gently as I sat next to Mikayla's hospital bed.
She smiled weakly. "It doesn't hurt as bad as it looks."
"I doubt that." I growled lowly. "Too many of my pack members have been put in the hospital this year." I snarled to myself, turning my head slightly so she couldn't see my face.
She placed her hand on top of mine in a comforting matter. "It's not your fault, Alpha. Things happen."
"Things wouldn't have happened to you if I hadn't let Cassie into the pack. I should've been more careful." I sighed and put my head in my hands.
"What's done is done. You can't change the past." Mikayla soothed.
"I should've seen this coming. Why didn't I see this coming?" I hit my head in frustration.
"Alpha, please. Stop!" She begged.
"You don't understand. People keep getting hurt on my watch. I'm supposed to know when these kind of things are going to happen." I urged.
"Things always happen for a reason, Alpha. Always." She smiled up at me. "All the matters now is that Cassie is getting what she deserves." Her mood turned sour instantly and I saw tears well up in her eyes.
I sighed and patted her hand gently. "I'll let you rest. Heal well, Mikayla. I'll be back soon."
"Goodbye, Alpha. Thank you for stopping by." I gave her one last smile before stepping out and shutting the door quietly behind me.
Standing at both sides of the door were Drake and Drew, wearing black sunglasses, dark jeans, and white button up long-sleeved shirts with black ties. I rolled my eyes at them. They were acting like they were protecting the President or something. But I had to admit, they did look pretty intimidating as they stood looking straight forward with there hands behind their backs. Well, to humans at least.
"Are you ready to leave, Miss Williams?" Drake questioned professionally, fighting off a smile as best as he could.
I tugged my leather jacket forward a bit and flipped my curly hair over my shoulder dramatically. "I suppose. It is getting late and I do wish to get some rest." I drawled out in an English accent.
"Right this way, Miss." Drew chuckled, losing character as he cracked a smile.
"Come on, dude! You ruined the whole thing!" Drake whined, stomping his foot childishly.
I gave them both a warning look. "I wasn't kidding when I said I wanted to sleep. You both know how I get when I don't get my sleep." I narrowed my eyes as they froze before looping their arms with mine and practically dragging me towards the car.
________________________Nick's POV
As soon as we walked into the store with Demos, Michael and I immediately started to lead him towards a secluded section.
I shoved him up against the wall and snarled. "What are you playing at? I don't know how you got Liz to believe you, but I'm not buying it."
"I do not know what you are talking about, Nicolas." He replied smoothly. I felt my eyes narrow to slits.
"I swear to god, if you hurt her-"
"I would never!" He snapped, outraged. Smoke came out of his nose with every breath as a couple of black scales started to form on his face. "She means more to me than anybody ever will!"
His fingernails became talons and I felt my own teeth lengthen and my claws grow. Just as my eyes switched colors, Michael stepped in before anything more could happen.
"Calm down! Liz will kill us all if you cause a scene and expose yourselves. Demos, if Liz trusts you, then so do I. I can see that you'd never hurt her." He turned to me with a slight glare. "And Nick. Back the fuck off." Michael snarled in my ear before dragging Demos off towards the clothes department.
*********************
Giggling came from behind the three of us as we walked towards the cafeteria.
"I swear if those girls don't shut up, I'm going to blow a fuse." I grumbled, running a hand through my hair.
"They've been following us all day." Michael sighed, rubbing his temples.
"Excuse me?" A high pitched voice squeaked from behind me. I cringed at the sound.
Slowly, we turned around only to come face to face with the three girls. Well shit.
"What do you want?" I spat, openly glaring at the girl.
"You, of course. Isn't it obvious?" She purred. Well, at least she tried to. Her voice shrieked like a dying whale. I shuddered in disgust, taking a step back.
"Listen..." Michael started.
"Destiny." The chick smirked at him.
"Look Destiny, you and your friends should leave." He stated firmly.
"And why would we do that?" She pouted. I rolled my eyes.
"Because-"
"What do you think you're doing?" A snarky remark came from behind us. We all turned to see Sarah standing beside Michael.
"I don't see how it's any of your business."
Stepping forward, Sarah wrapping her arms around Michael's waist. "He is my business. And taken. Isn't that right, Michael?"
He growled in approval, pulling her closer yet. "Yes ma'am."
In that moment I found myself missing my girlfriend, my Lizzie. We haven't spend much time together lately with all that's been going on. I suddenly felt a wave of guilt flow through me, but it wasn't mine. A hand came in contact with my arm, slowly trailing up and down. The guilt instantly went away and was replaced by anger.
I quickly shook Destiny's hand off and stepped even further back. A figure was by my side in a flash. "Mine!" A powerful voice boomed over us, making even the human girls bowed their heads to my beautiful angel.
'I'm far from an angel, sweetie.' Lizzie glanced at me, eyes glowing a vibrant green. Brighter than I've ever seen her eyes glow. Before long, she was back to glaring at Destiny. She gave a low, feral growl, causing the girls' eyes to pop out of their sockets and scurry away as fast as their 10 inch heels would take them.
I threw my arm around Lizzie's shoulder and pulled her to me. I buried my nose in her hair, enjoying her vanilla and fresh pine scent. "I think you went a little too far." I breathed in her ear, causing her to shudder. I loved how she reacted to me.
Lizzie growled, still pissed off. "That's not what matters to me right now." She roughly pulled me to her, placing her head in the crook of my neck. "Mine."
I growled softly, pulling her to me like she had. "Mine."
