Chapter 50

"Lucky, your stitches just split open. But you really shouldn't have been up and running around." The doctor gave me a disapproving look and I instantly felt guilty.

"Sorry, Doc. There were some... things that needed to be attended to." I smiled sheepishly up at him.

"I am ordering you to be on bed rest for the next week. Just so this doesn't happen again." He gave me a stern look.

"Of course." I nodded with a fake smile.

He smiled back and closed the door quietly behind him.

"Is he insane!? Bed rest? For a week!?!" I exploded the second the door clicked shut. I shot up in my seat only to be restrained by all the guys in the room, including my Dad and Mark. "Get off of me." I snarled at them, my eyes flashing green. I thrashed around, trying to get out of their grip.

"Enough Elizabeth!" Dad yelled, grabbing my face so I was looking at him. "It will only hurt you more."

I growled at him, feeling my teeth start to grow into canines. "I mustn't look weak. I cannot look weak." Fawn's voice seeped through a bit. She was just as pissed as me.

"And why is that?" He looked at me with raised eyebrows.

"I can't protect them. I can't save them. Not like this." Fawn and I growled loudly. "Not like this." We snarled silently.

"We don't need protecting, Liz." Michael smiled down at me even though his hands were clamped down on my forearm. "You can't always save everyone."

I froze. Everyone gasped in shock as they stared at Michael.

He cringed. "Ah shit. Liz that's not what I meant. You know that, right?"

I gave up my fight and slumped down in my seat. "Yeah, I get it. What's the point? If you can't save them all, why save any. Right, Michael?" I glared harshly at him as everyone backed away from me.

"Ok. We all just need to cool off a little." Sarah suggested nervously. "Let's take a break."

A loud sound was heard from the back of the room, where Nick and Michael were now standing. We all turned to the source of the noise. Nick had backed Michael up against a wall and had punched the wall right next to Michael's head, creating a huge hole.

"Idiot." Nick snarled in his face. "What were you thinking, saying something like that to her? You know how she feels about not being able to save people!"

"I-" Michael stuttered, scared out of his wits.

"That is quite enough, boys." I bellowed, stared them down. They both turned towards me and bowed their heads, but you could tell Nick was still fuming.

"Go walk it off, Nick." I said softly, motioning to the door. "Come back when you're calm. Or calmer, at least."

He nodded stiffly before kissing my forehead and walking out the door. I looked at Michael. "I lost my temper, Michael. I'm sorry."

"It's okay. I'm sorry too." He gave me a little smile.

"Alpha's do not apologize to anyone of a lower rank." Dad budded in suddenly.
