It had been a few days since the whole thing had happened between Mitch and I, but things were good now. He and Candace were still hanging out, and I'm not going to lie it was hard. Seeing them together, was almost like knife in my heart. I knew he could do so much better than her, but he wouldn't listen and I had to be there for him. I had to just support him the best that I could.
And as for me and Lane, he was talking to me a lot more now. Every day after school he would come over and talk to me at my locker. Mitch still drove me home, but Lane always offered. I knew it was kind of mine and Mitch's thing, but still it was sweet that he always asked. We still hadn't heard anything from the record company. We were still hoping that something would happen soon.
"Hey you." Lane said as he walked over to me. I was leaning against my locker, looking through my phone.
"Hey." I said, looking up.
"What's up?"
"Nothing much. Just waiting on Mitch, as usual."
"Oh, things going good with you guys?"
"Yeah they are. I've accepted the fact that he's going to be with Candace and there's nothing I can do about it."
"It'll get easier, it'll take time but it will get easier." He said.
"You talk like you've been through it before."
"Yeah." He looked down. I didn't ask anymore questions, I just changed the subject.
"So we still on for tomorrow?" I asked.
He looked up and smiled. "Yeah. What time should I pick you up?"
"Does twelve sound good?"
"Sounds great." He said.
"Hey you two." Mitch said, as he walked up.
"Hey," I said.
"Ready to go?" He asked.
"Yeah sure. See ya tomorrow." I waved to Lane.
"See ya." He said.
"What was that about?" Mitch asked, as we walked out to his car.
"We're going out tomorrow." I said.
"Oh okay."
"You got a problem with that?" I asked.
"Nope, not at all. Just be careful. You don't really know him."
"I will, Dad." I said.
"Hey now, I'm just looking out for you."
"I know, I'm kidding. I appreciate it."
We pulled up in front of my house and went inside. As usual, Mom had food waiting for us. Today she had made brownies and they looked amazing. We had already eaten three between us when Austin and Caleb showed up.
"Wow guys, thanks for saving us some." Austin said.
"Well you should've gotten here sooner." I said.
"Caleb's fault." He said as he grabbed a brownie.
"Excuse me for trying to be a nice person." He said.
"What happened?" Mitch asked.
"There was this dog on the side of the road and it had been hit, so I got out to help it."
"Aww that's sad. Was it okay?" I asked.
"Yeah, it was fine. Austin wouldn't leave me alone about it."
I slapped him across the arm.
"Ouch! What the heck?" He asked as he rubbed his arm.
"Why can't you just be sympathetic for once?" I asked.
"Dude, it was a dog. He was fine."
"Whatever." I said.
"How about we go rehearse?" Mitch said.
"Sounds good to me." I said.
I grabbed another brownie as we headed out to the garage. We hooked up our amps to our guitars and bass. Austin got set at his drums. We just got warmed up a little and then we started to rehearse some. We didn't have any gigs set up, we were working on it. But we needed to rehearse so that we would be ready when a gig did come up. And hopefully the recording studio guy would call us soon.
"Heard anything else from that guy?" I asked Austin.
"I asked my dad last night if his brother had said anything, but he said no and that he hadn't said anything to the guy. Should we go down there and talk to him?"
"I don't know." I said.
"I think we should wait," Mitch said. "I don't know if pushing him is a good idea."
"True," I said.
"Yeah, but we need to show that we're serious and interested in a record deal." Caleb said. "Just sitting here waiting for it to come to us isn't going to help, we have to get out there and make ourselves known."
"You know what, you're right." Austin said.
"Yeah, we should make a YouTube channel." Caleb said. "That will get our name out there for people. People get discovered on YouTube all the time."
"That's a great idea." I said.
"Let's get it started now." Mitch said. "Jess, go get your computer."
I ran up to my room and got my computer. We made our YouTube channel and then posted a message about our band, and asked what songs people would like to hear us song. Hopefully we would have some followers.
"Now we just have to wait." Caleb said.
"For what?" I asked.
"Followers and someone to find us."
"Are you sure this is going to work?" Austin asked.
"Well nothing is guaranteed, but this is a start. At least we're out there for people to find us."
"Okay, well hopefully it works." Mitch said.
The boys left and I went back inside. I wasn't sure how this whole YouTube thing was going to work, but maybe it would. I guess I was just scared, scared that maybe we weren't good and people might make fun of us. I mean yeah we had done some gigs and stuff, but still. This was all I wanted to do, make music and make people happy with it. Suddenly, Morgan came busting through my bedroom door.
"Do you not knock anymore?" I said.
"What is this?"
She shoved her phone in my face. I took it from her and looked better at it. She had it opened up to our YouTube channel. I just stared at it and then looked back up to her.
"The boys and I made a YouTube channel. We have to get our name out there."
"Oh my gosh. You people are obsessed with getting famous." She rolled her eyes and shook her head.
"Are you kidding me right now? Do you really think that's all we want?"
"Well what else is there?"
"Plenty more. This is something we love and enjoy. We want to make people happy with our music and give back to others. This is so much more then fame. We're not that shallow."
She just rolled her eyes and grabbed the phone from my hand. She walked over to the door and turned back to me before she left.
"Just don't like embarrass me."
"How am I even going to do that? You never talk to me."
"Just, don't make a fool of yourself."
"That's the last thing I'd do."
"Good." And she left.
I wasn't worried about making a fool of myself at all. I was worried about not making it and never living my dream.
