Lane and I started hanging out more and more. He would come over after school sometimes and we would do home work together. He even sat in on some band rehearsals and played guitar sometimes. We had considered asking him to join but he said he wasn't interested. He loved music, but it was only a hobby for him.

Mitch and I still rode to school and back together and since he and Candace had broken up, he was back to his old self again, which I was beyond happy about. I never knew what he saw in her anyway, but it was over now and we had all moved on.

"So when are you two gonna start dating?" He asked, as we rode to school one day.

"Excuse me?" I said.

"Come on. I know it's only a matter of time before it happens. You two hang out all the time and you've liked him since day one."

"Well, I don't know. We haven't talked about it. But when it happens, you'll be one of the first to know."

"Oh, so it's gonna happen for sure then?"

"Dude, I don't know. Chill out."

"Sorry,"

We didn't talk the rest of the way to school. When we walked in, I saw Lane standing by my locker for me. I walked up to him, leaving Mitch, who didn't seem very happy about the situation, but he could get over it. I don't know what his problem was today.

"Hey Lane," I said as I walked up.

"Hey, what's his problem?" He pointed to Mitch, who was just giving him the death glare.

"Oh nothing. He'll get over it. What's up?"

"I was wondering if I could drive you home from school today?"

"Yeah, not a problem. I'll just let Mitch know." I said.

"Okay cool. Want to walk to class together?" He asked.

"Yeah, sure."

I grabbed my books for first period and then we walked to class. He opened the door and we walked in. Mitch was already there, sitting in our corner. He frowned when he saw us walk in. I don't understand why he was all of the sudden against us. But I just ignored it and talked to Lane for a little while before I went to sit in my seat.

The bell rang and we all scrambled to get into our seats. I sat down and pulled out my binder and pencil. I leaned over and whispered to Mitch.

"Hey, Lane wants to drive me home today, if that's okay."

"Yeah, fine with me. Do what you want."

"What's that supposed to mean?" I asked.

"Nothing. Just if you want him to drive you home, go ahead."

I just rolled my eyes at him and sat back up in my chair. He didn't have to act like such a jerk to me, just because I was riding home with someone else.

Lunchtime came and we didn't say two words to each other. Austin and Caleb did most of the talking. I just listened to them and tried to ignore Mitch and the fact that he was treating me like I had done something wrong.

"So, we still having practice after school?" Caleb asked.

"Guess so, unless Jess has other plans." Mitch said, sharply.

"Okay that's not fair. I'm just riding home with him, gosh."

"Whoa, what's going on?" Austin asked.

"It's nothing," I said. "And yes, we are having practice after school today."

"Okay, sounds good." Caleb said.
