//Michael with brown hair was just wow\\
It had been two weeks since the accident. Mitch was back home and we were both going back to school. It was weird, well for Mitch at least. He didn't remember anyone and the only people he knew was me, Austin and Caleb. I also hated how people would just look at us as we walked down the hallways, like we were aliens or something. I was used to being the invisible girl, not the center of attention.
"Why do they stare at us?" Mitch asked, one day as we were walking to our lockers.
"I really don't know. They used to not. It's probably because of the accident."
"Oh okay." He said. "Well my mom is here. See ya tomorrow."
"See ya." I said.
His parents and the doctor, weren't ready for him to start driving just yet. He remember how, but they were just taking it slow. I think they were protecting him too much. But who could blame them really, apparently both of us were too close to death for everyone, Mitch most of all.
I closed my locker door and went to catch the bus, when I almost ran into Lane. I hadn't seen him since the accident. He hadn't even come to visit me in the hospital. I didn't know what was up with him.
"Hey,' He said.
"Hey." I said, a little shortly.
"How are you doing?" He asked.
"Well I'm fine. Which you would know, if you actually cared."
Okay, I know I was harsh, but it really bothered me that he hadn't even thought to call. Like he said he was my friend, but yet he wasn't acting like it at all.
"Whoa, sorry. Guess I did deserve that, but I just didn't know what to say."
"Seriously? Dude, you could've just been yourself, like you always are with me. I was in a car accident, not dead. There's no reason to be sorry. I'm fine."
"I know, it's just, I heard about what happened with Mitch and I just didn't know how you were taking it. Some people take stuff like this hard."
"Yeah, I know. I'm doing okay. It's been hard, but I'm doing better."
"That's good." He said.
An awkward silence fell and then I noticed the time. I had to catch the bus or I would be late.
"Well I gotta go catch the bus. See ya." I said and turned to go.
"Whoa, wait up." He said.
I turned around, I knew what was coming.
"I can give you a ride, if you want."
I was still a little upset with how he had treated me, but I literally hated riding the bus.
"Yeah, why not." I said.
I followed him out to his car, threw my bag in the back and then got in the passenger seat. We drove out of the parking lot, but he didn't turn to take the road to my house, he went the opposite direction.
"Um, where are we going?" I asked.
"Just a detour. Sit back and relax."
"Okay." I said.
But I didn't want to take a detour, I wanted to go home. I had homework today and a song to work on, not that we would be playing anytime soon. Mitch had forgotten how to play guitar, so I was teaching him. He was picking up on it pretty fast, but still had a ways to go.
"So where are we going?" I asked.
"You'll see." He said.
I just gave up and looked out the window. We were going out to the bay, I could tell, because I had been this way several times in my life.
