I sat out on my porch waiting for Mitch to come. It was Monday and he was supposed to pick me up for school. He was already five minutes late, I had texted and called him but he wasn't answering me. I was about to start walking, when I saw his car come around the corner and stop in front of my house.
"Well it's about time." I said as I got in the car.
"Sorry, I woke up late."
"You could've at least let me know."
"Well I'm sorry. I was more worried about getting ready for school then answering your texts."
I just rolled my eyes at him. I don't understand why he had to act like such a jerk to me. It seemed like all he did lately was snap at me. It was hurtful and annoying and it needed to stop.
"Mitch, what is wrong with you?" I asked.
"What are you talking about?" He asked.
"For like almost three weeks now you've been avoiding me, snapping at me and just being a straight up jerk. What the heck is wrong with you?"
His face softened some and he looked genuinely shocked, like he hadn't realized he was acting that way. His grip tightened on the steering wheel and he just looked straight ahead.
"I've just been going through some stuff. It's no big deal though. I'm sorry I've been acting like this towards you, I didn't mean to." He said.
"It's fine. I'm just worried about you. What are you going through that you can't talk to me about?" I asked.
"Just some personal stuff. I'm handling it on my own. Don't worry about it."
"Okay, fine. But you know you can tell me anything, right?" I said.
"Yeah, I know."
We pulled into the parking lot and parked the car. We both got out and headed to our lockers. Lane walked to mine and kissed me on the cheek when he saw me.
"How are you?" He asked.
"I'm good." I said.
I glanced over at Mitch and saw that he was staring at me and Lane. He quickly looked away when we made eye contact. He was acting so strange.
"Hey, you okay?" Lane asked.
"Oh yeah, I'm good. Were you saying something?" I asked.
"Yeah, I asked if you wanted to hang out after school."
"Aw I'm sorry, I can't. Band rehearsal is today. But I'm free tomorrow."
"I have to tutor some girl in math tomorrow." He said.
"Oh, when did this happen?" I asked.
"Last week. She's struggling and asked me for help."
Okay, so I never thought of myself as the jealous type of girlfriend, and for the most part I wasn't. But this just didn't set well with me. He hadn't even mentioned it until now and I wasn't exactly crazy about the whole thing.
"Is she in our class?" I asked.
"Yeah, she's the brown haired girl that sits in front of me." He said.
"Charlotte Knox? For real?" I asked.
"Yeah, what's wrong with her?"
"She's always been an ace at math and she's also a huge flirt."
"Jess, are you jealous?" He asked, a smirk on his face.
"I don't know...maybe. I mean how am I supposed to feel about you tutoring some girl, all alone."
