I sat in my room, headphones in, blasting out to whatever my playlist wanted to play. I knew he would never like me and I was foolish to think it. It was silly of me to actually think that he would like me. No one ever felt that way about me, not now, not ever.

Mitch texted, wanting to hang out. I said no and he knew me too well, because whenever I said no to hanging out he knew something was up. Especially since I didn't have a legitimate reason for saying no.

Within minutes he was standing outside my door and in his hand was a bag of Panda Express. I loved this boy.

"Dude, you know exactly what I need." I said as he walked in.

"Well I figured something was up, so I got food. Because food fixes everything."

"Yeah, it really does." I said, taking the bag from him.

We sat down in the living room and I turned on the tv. I was honestly so excited to eat, maybe he'd forget about the "problem" and I wouldn't have to explain it.

"So, what's going on?" He asked.

I sighed heavily and took a bite of my chicken. I chewed it before answering him.

"It's stupid." I said.

"Apparently not. You didn't want to hang out with me, and now you're downing chicken like you haven't eaten in weeks. Something is wrong."

"Fine. I'll tell you, but it really is stupid."

"Try me." He said.

"Lane likes a girl and it's not me."

"Oh."

That's all he said.

"Yeah, and I was an idiot to think that he would actually like me back."

"No you're not. He's the idiot."

"What?" I said, puzzled.

"He's an idiot for not liking you. I mean he's obviously blind to not see what's right in front of him."

Mitch had never said this before. I was slightly shocked by what he was saying. I mean it almost felt like he liked me, but I pushed that thought aside because that would never happen. I mean we were best friends for crying out loud.

"Well I don't know about all that, but I was still stupid to think it. No guy will ever like me like that. So I'm just not going to worry about it."

"Maybe they have, and you just don't know it."

I wanted to ask him what he meant by that but Mom and Dad walked through the door then and I didn't get the chance.

"Whoa it smells like Chinese in here." Mom said.

"Mitch brought me Panda." I said.

"Oh that explains it. It smells amazing, and I just ate, myself."

"Where'd you guys go?" I asked.

"We went to some Italian place downtown. It was really good." She said.

"Nice." I said.

"Yeah, don't you kids forget to pick your mess."

She winked at us as she walked upstairs. She always felt the need to remind us of that.

We picked up all our trash and threw it away. Mitch stayed and watched a movie and then went home. I never did get to ask him what he meant by his comment. It still bugged me, though. What if there was some guy that liked me and I never knew it? Part of me kind of wished it were true but a part of me was thinking something that I really hoped wasn't true.

That he was talking about himself.

I groaned when my alarm went off the next day. I hated getting up, but today was for a different reason. I just really didn't want to see Lane at school today. I knew I shouldn't really be that way, but I really didn't want to have to face him. I mean yeah it wasn't his fault that he didn't like me, it was my fault for liking him in the first place. Now I had to somehow get over him. I don't understand why feelings have to be so dang complicated.

I got ready for school and rand down the stairs to grab breakfast. I got a muffin and was just finishing my milk, when I heard Mitch's car horn. I hugged Mom goodbye and ran out to the car. I hadn't said much and I guess Mitch noticed.

"You okay?" He asked.

"I'm just dreading seeing Lane today, that's all."

"Oh I see. Well you can't hid from him forever. It's not his fault that he likes someone else."

"I know. Life was so much easier when I thought boys were gross." I said.

"Hey now, I take offense to that."

I looked over at him and laughed.

"And you most of all."

He reached over and started tickling me. I was laughing so hard that I started to cry. He wouldn't stop tickling me. I looked up, but it was too late.

"MITCH WATCH OUT!!!" I screamed.

He slammed on the breaks, but not until we collided with a pickup truck.

The last thing I remember.
