Lane picked me up for school on Monday, like he promised. He hadn't talked to me since Saturday when he had come over. I knew he was mad at me, but he didn't have to go and act like a child about it.

I got in the car and closed the door. He pulled off and didn't say a thing. Not a "good morning" or a "Hello". I didn't say anything either. I had already apologized, there was nothing more for me to say.

I just looked out the window and watched everything go by. But the silence was killing me, so I eventually broke.

"Okay. What's up with you?"

"What do you mean?" He asked.

"Oh don't give me that. You're still mad at me for Saturday, aren't you?"

"No, I'm not." He said.

"Well then, what is it?"

"I'm not mad about that. I get it and I'm over it. It's something else."

"What?" I asked. "You know, you can tell me anything."

"I know, but this is...different. I don't know how you'll react."

"Try me."

He pulled into the school parking lot and parked the car. He turned the car off and the he looked at me.

"Jess, do you remember back before the accident, the time I asked you for advice about telling a girl how I feel?"

I remembered all too well, I also remembered how I had felt afterwards, like I had been punched in the stomach.

"Yeah, I remember." I said.

"Well, that girl, she's you."

I looked at him with a shocked and confused look on his face.

"Seriously?" I said.

"Yeah. I just didn't know how to approach it. I was going to tell you on Saturday. That's why I got a little upset. I'm sorry for that."

"No, it's fine. I honestly don't know what to say."

"Well, will you go out with me? On a proper date? Not just some drive to the bay."

"Yeah, I'd love to." I said.

"Great."

He smiled and so did I. I couldn't believe that he had been talking about me the whole time and that I was actually going to be dating the guy I had wanted to date for so long.

We walked into school together and then went to out separate lockers. I couldn't stop smiling and I was the happiest I had been in a while.

"Well someone looks happy today." Austin said, as he approached my locker.

"I am. I'm beyond happy. Lane asked me out!"

"Really?"

"Yes! I can't believe it."

"Neither can I." He didn't seem happy.
