Chapter 13; Asking Her Dad

Katniss POV

  Almost two years. Its almost been two full years since Peeta and I met. I remember when we first met and how I wasn't sure about dating him. But now I know I could never live without him. Peeta is my best friend and he is the sweetest, nicest and funniest person I know.

  We still live together in his apartment. I know we will probably live together forever now and the thought of that makes me so happy. It's one of those relaxing Friday nights. Peeta and I are snuggled up on the couch. Peeta's arm is wrapped around me and I have my head in his chest. This gives me time to think about our relationship.

Peeta's POV

Katniss and I have been dating for almost two years and Im so glad we lasted this long. This is the best relationship I have ever had with someone. I want to spend the rest of my life with her so I have been having a lot of thoughts. I want to marry her.

  I have been thinking this for a while now and I don't think Katniss has any idea that I have. I have asked my brothers about it and they think I should ask her. They told me to go for it. I still have to ask her dad. That is the part that is making me nervous. I wanted to go and ask him while Katniss was at work so she wouldn't know what I was up to. So I have to wait for Monday to ask him but that gives me more time to think.

  With all of this thinking I didn't realize that Katniss has fallen asleep. I smile. She looks beautiful when she is sleeping. I stand up and carry her into our room. I lay her down and lay next to her. I watch her sleep until my eyes close.

Today is the day that I will ask Katniss father if I can marry Katniss. She is at work right now and I'm on my lunch break so this is the perfect time to ask. I am driving to her parents house almost freaking out but I know I need to remain calm. Thats when I pull into the driveway and get out of the car.

  I walk up to the door and hesitate before I knock on it. After I knock on it it takes a while for someone to answer. Finally her dad opens the door.

  " Peeta, what brings you here?" her father asks.

  " Uh.. I wanted to talk to you," I say and he gestures for me to come in.

  "Okay Peeta, come on in," he says looking concerned. He then tells me to sit down. " Whats going on Peeta?,"

  " Well Katniss and I have been dating for a long time now... almost two years...and I love her so much." Her father nods showing me that he understands so I continue. " I want to spend the rest of my life with her so I was thinking about taking our relationship to the next step."

  " And the next step is?," he asks and I take a deep breath and just get it out.

  " I wanted to know...if I could marry her," I say and he grins.

  " Well Peeta, I always knew this day would come. I also know that you are a great guy for Katniss," he tells me and I nod.

  " And all I want to do is make her happy," I say in the most honest way. I really do mean it. Making Katniss happy is the main thing that I want to do.

  " So Peeta," he starts and my heart begins to pound. " I think you marrying Katniss is a good idea. If there was any guy out there for her I'm glad its you."

  I smile, glad that he agreed to let me marry her. I stand up. " Thank you so much Mr. Everdeen! I really appreciate it," I say with the biggest smile on my face.

  He stands up too and shakes my hand. " Im glad to make you happy. When do you plan on proposing?" he asks me.

  " Im not completely sure yet but I will figure it out soon." I say.

" Okay, no problem," he says and I look at the time.

" Mr. Everdeen, I have to get back to work right now but thanks again," I tell him still staring at the clock.

" Of course, Peeta," he says and gives me a grin.

I smile and walk out of the door and telling him to have a good day. He says it back and I get into my car and drive back to the bakery. Only my brothers knew where I was going so I was planning to go back and tell them the good news.

I walk into the bakery when I get there and they see me so happy.

" Any luck," Asher asks and I nod with a huge grin on my face.

" He said he would let me marry her!" I say, relieved and excited at the same time.

" Good for you!," Asher says. "When are you going to propose to her."

Everyone keeps asking me this. " I have to get a ring first. I have to find the perfect one, then I will do it." I say and Asher nods then my dad comes in.

" Hey Peeta, where were you a few minutes ago?," he asks and I tell him the good news too.

" I was at Katniss' parents house. I asked her dad if I could marry her," thats when he looks up at me.

" You did?," he questions me.

" Yea, and he said I could," I tell him excitedly.

" Are you sure your ready for all of that.? Thats a huge step." He tells me.

" Katniss and I have been together for almost 2 years now, dad," I tell him. " I think its about that time."

  " Yeah, I guess your right," he says and I nod. " Good luck," he tells me and I smile.

  " Thanks dad," I reply back and I finish off my day at work thinking about how I would propose to Katniss.
