Chapter 20; Wedding Day

Katniss POV

Today is the day that I have been waiting for for such a long time. It is April 30th, the day Peeta and I are getting married. I can't believe this day finally came.

  This morning Peeta and I said our goodbyes because we knew we couldn't see each other until the wedding. I miss him and I hope he isn't panicking.

  I am in a hotel room that we got just for today so that I can get into my dress and get ready. All of the ladies are in the room with me and we all are getting ready together.

  " Prim what time is it," I ask as I am in the middle of curling my hair.

  " Its 1:00pm," she tells me which means we have to be out of here in  thirty minutes at the most.

  I begin to panic and everyone tries to calm me down.

  " It's alright Katniss, lets just get you into your dress," my mother tells me. I haven't really been able to keep it together all day. I have been crying out of nervousness and excitement at the same time.

  I go into the room where my dress is. I carefully take it out its of its bag and place it on the bed. It's so beautiful. My mom and Prim help me put it on which takes at least twenty minutes.

  When it is on I turn around and look in the mirror. My eyes begin to tear up again. Luckily, I wore water proof mascara so my make up wouldn't run. I try my best to hold back the tears.

  " Okay! We have to go!," Prim says as she snaps me out of my daze. There is a limousine in the front of the hotel to pick us up.

We all get in the car. Prim, Johanna, Annie, and Nalla are my bridesmaids. We all are in the limo together and everyone can tell I'm nervous.

" It will be great, Katniss," Johanna reassures me. " Don't worry," I nod

" I just want everything to go as planned," I tell everyone and I know they understand.

" Of course you do," Annie adds and I try my best to remain calm.

We pull up to where my wedding will be. It is outside and the weather seems to be cooperating so far. It is sunny and warm with a cool breeze.

There is a building that is near where our wedding will be so we go in there to wait until it is time to start. I watch as people arrive and I constantly look at the clock.

The door to where we are waiting opens and my father walks in. He stares at me in awe as I smile and give him a hug.

" You look beautiful, Katniss," he tells me.

" Thank you," I say as he continues to admire the way I look.

I look up at him and his eyes are watery and I laugh. " Please don't make me cry again," I say and he laughs.

" I just always knew this day would come and it's finally here," he tells me and I smile.

The seats seem to be getting filled up by family and friends and I begin to get that anxious feeling. We have to go now.

I see Peeta standing up in front of the audience where we will be married with his groomsmen lined up neatly behind him. That's when the music begins to play and Prim is the first one to walk out down the aisle. Then Johanna, then Annie and last Nalla.

   Now its my turn. I watch as everyone stands up and faces the double doors that open to reveal my dad and I. My dad leads me down the aisle and I cant take my watery eyes off Peeta. I don't want to cry but tears threaten to spill over.

  We finally make it up to where Peeta stands and we take each others hand. I look one last time at my dad as he mouths " I love you." and I mouth it back to him.

  The man begins to speak things that I can barely pay attention to. It feels like Peeta and I are the only ones in the world right now. I hear the man ask, " Peeta, do you take Katniss to be your wife?," and Peeta immediately answers.

  " I do ," he laughs happily as he slides the ring on my finger.

  Then he asks me the question.
" Katniss, do you take Peeta to be your husband?."

  " I do," I say excitedly and slide his ring on his finger.

  " Okay, well I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride," he announces.

  Peeta leans in for a kiss and our lips press against each others.
When we pull away everyone claps and I whisper " I love you," and he says it back.

  We walk back down the aisle with our arms wrapped around each others. When we get into the building we share a long kiss and hug.

  " Finally!," Peeta says and I giggle.

  " I know! We are finally married," I say and he looks at my dress.

  " You look absolutely stunning," he tells me and I give him another kiss.

  " Thank you, you look great too," I say and he laughs.

We have a reception after this in a few minutes at a banquet hall in so we take the limo together and we never let go of each others hands.

  As we walk into the banquet hall everyone is there already and they cheer. We get many congratulations. We go in the middle of the dance floor to have a first slow dance as a married couple. It feels like Peeta and I are the only people in the world as we dance together.

   After our dance, friends and family come up to us and give us hugs.

  " Congratulations," my dad says as he gives me a tight hug.

  " Thank you, dad," I say as I hug him back. Then he walks over to Peeta to give him a small hug.

  " Congrats," my dad says with a smile.

  " Thank you," he says politely back to him.

  " Make sure you take care of her," he tells Peeta and he nods. I smile, glad that my dad trust Peeta.

  I watch as people admire our wedding cake that was made at Peeta's bakery. It is mostly young children of family friends that stare at it in awe.

  When the time came, Peeta and I cut the cake together. We both hold onto the knife and slide it through the cake. Peeta gets some icing on his finger so he puts it on my nose.

   " Heyy! What was that for!," I say laughing and I get Peeta back by putting some on his cheek. We kiss as everyone laughs at what just happened.

    There is a special table in the back of the room for just the two of us. We go back there and sit together. I love Peeta so much. This is by far best day of my life.
