Chater 30; New Years

Katniss POV

I'm so ready to start a new year. This year will be a lot better then last year. Especially since Peeta and I are expecting our little baby soon.

After we told everyone about the baby, I was finally able to be happy and excited about it. I have to admit, I am a little nervous though. I don't have any clue on how to be a mother. I'm just hoping that my mother will give me some good advice.

Tonight Prim and Andrew are having a New Years Eve party. They are inviting friends and family of theres. Peeta and I are going to get there a little earlier than everyone else to help them get ready.

Right now I am going through my closet trying to find at least one pair of pant that still fits.

" Ughhhh!!," I groan loudly as Peeta comes into our room.

" Is everything okay?," he asks and I shake my head angrily.

" No! I can't find anything that fits," I say and he looks at my stomach. I see him looking and I roll my eyes and laugh. " Yes, I know I'm getting big."

He laughs. " I wasn't gonna say that," he says walking over to me. He puts his hand on the small bump on my abdomen.

" I'm going to make us late," I say and look at the clock. " It's already five thirty pm and I said I would be at her house at six.

"Do you need some help," he ask me politely but I waive off his offer.

" It's alright," I say as I pull out a pair of black leggings and a loose shirt. I quickly put the clothes on. The leggings are a little tight around my stomach but it will work for now. I definitely need to get some new, bigger clothes soon. I add some heels and grab my purse and head out of the door and go to the car where Peeta was patiently waiting.

  " Sorry for keeping you waiting," I say as I get into the car and make sure I have everything with me.

  " Don't say sorry. You're fine," he tells me and I lean over to give him a kiss before he begins pulling out our new driveway.

  When we get to Prim and Andrew's apartment we get out of the car and go inside. I press the button on the elevator as we wait.

  I knock on Prim's door and she opens it.

  " Heyy Katniss! Heyy Peeta ," she says happily as she lets us in the house.

  " Hey!," I reply as I walk in and see Andrew coming towards the door.

  " Hi, Andrew," I greet him and he says hello back. Andrew and Peeta became friends. After hanging out around each other at parties or family gatherings, they began to talk and now they enjoy each others company.

  We all go into the kitchen and the guys get a drink and go sit down in the living room. Prim and I stay in the kitchen and just talk for a while.

" Andrew and Peeta seem to be getting along," she remarks as she looks at them.

" Yea, I know!," I laugh. " I think Andrew is a great guy for you," I tell her and she nods.

" Yea. So, is Peeta excited," she asks me and I instantly know what she is talking to.

" He is so excited! He can't stop talking about the baby!," I say happily as Prim listens.

" That's great," she replies and I continue. " I'm guessing you want a girl."

I giggle. " How did you know?," I reply. " But it would be okay to have either a boy or a girl. I would love it exactly the same." Our conversation is cut off by the doorbell ringing. Prim goes to answer it. She opens the door and my parents come in.

We greet each other and soon after, a few of Prim's friends come in. We all are sitting at a table just talking. Peeta is sitting next to me so he puts his arm around me.

" So how have you been doing," my mother questions me.

" Oh, I've been fine," I tell her. " I haven't been sick much anymore which is good."

" Thats good," she says.

" You excited about being a dad, Peeta?," My father asks Peeta and I look at him and smirk. I know how excited Peeta is so it is funny to hear him sound calm about it.

" Uh yea, I'm really excited," he says and I laugh. " I'm pretty sure we are having a boy." I look at him with a confused face.

" A boy?," I ask him and he nods laughing. I shake my head. " No it's a girl," I say in a playful tone and everyone laughs.

We go back and forth on this topic until Peeta finally admits that it would be okay to have either gender.

It is 11:59 pm and we are watching the tv. The countdown to the new year has started. We are all standing up enjoying our last seconds of this year.

We are all counting down to the new year as we watch the ball drop on tv.

   " Five, four, three, two, one!," We all say with the crowd on tv. Finally we have started a new year. Peeta leans over to give me a kiss and I kiss him back. We are interrupted by a large gasp from Prim. I instantly turn around to look at her and I am in shock.

  Prim is standing up with her hands covering her mouth. She is crying as she is look at Andrew who is down on one knee holding out a diamond engagement ring out to her.

   " I love you Prim. Will you marry me?," he asks her as tears spill over her eyes. We are all in shock as we wait for her answer.

   " Yes!," she exclaims as we all cheer for them. Prim gives Andrew a long kiss as he stands up to give her a tight hug.

  A little later when everyone has left but Peeta and I are still at Prim's house, I talk to Prim.

   " Congratulations," I tell her happily.

  " Thank you!," she replies with a huge smile on her face.

   " I can't believe my little sister is getting married," I exclaim.

  " Well I can't believe my big sister is having a baby," she says back which makes me chuckle.

  " Let me see that ring," I say as I walk over to her and look at her finger. " Ohhh wow, Prim! That is absolutely beautiful!"

  " Thank you! I'm so excited!!," she seems so happy in the moment right now.
