Chapter 17; Trip

Katniss POV

Today Peeta and I are going to visit some of my friends in Hawaii. My friend Annie from school and college lives there with her family. She has a husband named Finnick and two sons. One is named Finn, who is ten and the other one is named Colby, who is six. I haven't seen them in a while and it will be great to get a vacation.

  Johanna, my other friend from school will also be meeting us in Hawaii. She is bringing her husband and her family. She has a husband named Jacob, a son named Conner that is nine and a daughter named Emily that is only five months. I have never seen her yet.

  Peeta and I have a flight to Hawaii at 11 o'clock.  I am grabbing my bags to put in the car but Peeta takes them out of my hand.

  " I got it," he says and puts it in the car for me.

  " Thank you," I say and check to make sure we have our plane tickets.

  " Alright lets go," he tells me and opens the car door for me so I can get in.

  We start driving off. Im so excited to go to Hawaii. I have been there once before when I was a teenager but it should be more fun as an adult.

  When we get to the airport we grab our bags and start rolling them inside. We got here early just in case. It's 9:00 am. I don't like airports much because there is so much security. It takes so long just to get through it.

  The security guard tells us to take our shoes and belts off as we walk through the scanner. We do as we are told and walk through it and luckily nothing beeps.

  Finally we get close to the gate but we decide to get something quick to eat. We go to a store in the airport that sells breakfast foods. I get coffee and a croissant and Peeta gets coffee and a bagel.

  We go to sit down by the gate that blocks off the entrance to the plane. We eat are breakfast and before we know it they call us to board the plane.

" Alright, thats our plane," Peeta says standing up. I grab my small bag and begin walking towards the gate. It takes a while for us to get to the front because there are so many people trying to board the plane.

I walk up to the gate and give them my ticket. They let me on and I wait for Peeta. They allow him to pass and we get on the plane. The plane isn't too bad. There seems to be enough room and the people are nice.

" Excuse me," I say a couple times trying to get past people trying to get comfortable.

When we get to our seat Peeta lets me have the window like I'm a little kid. I smile as he lets me in first. He puts his bag in the compartment above us and then sits down next to me. His hand rest on top of mine. He looks a little nervous.

" You're not scared of flying, are you?," I ask and he shakes his head but he looks uncertain about his answer.

" Not really, I just haven't taken a plane in a long time," he says.

" When was the last time you rode on a plane," I question him.

" When I was like four years old," he says and I laugh with a confused look. How does he even remember that?

Soon enough the plane takes off and Peeta still holds my hand. "Its okay," I try to reassure him as much as possible and he just nods.

The rest of the trip is pretty fast and the plane lands. It frustrated me when it took them so long to let us off the plane.

  When we finally get off we enter the beautiful airport in Hawaii and everyone seems so happy. They offer help and are willing to answer any questions we have.

We take a car that brings us to a place that we would get a rental car to drive it the rest of the way to Annie's house.

  Driving to Annie's house was confusing. She just moved to a big new house that has five bedrooms that could fit me, Peeta and Johanna and her family. It is a closed off area behind big gates that you need a code to get into. Annie gave me the code a while ago so I tell Peeta what it is and he puts it in. Sure enough the big gates open and we are allowed in.

We are driving down the rode that is filled with huge houses until I see Annie's house.

" Its right here," I point out and Peeta pulls into their driveway. I get out of the car with my suitcase and go up to the door to ring their bell. The door opens and Annie is behind it.

" Hi! How are you!," she says giving me a hug.

" Im great how are you," I say hugging her back.

" Im good too," she says.

Peeta walks in and they hug and greet each other. They have met before when Annie came to California to visit family and friends. I see Finnick behind Annie telling us to come in.

" Hi Finnick," I say and give him a hug.

" Hey long time no see," he says and he helps me with my bag.

For about thirty minutes there is just a bunch of greeting each other and catching up. Thats when I see Annie look at my hand.

" Katniss? Whats that on your finger," she says and I look at it. How could I forget to tell her that I got engaged?!

" Peeta and I are getting married," I say a little embarrassed that I forgot to say something about this. " Sorry I almost forgot to tell you."

" What?! Congratulations," Annie says happily and Finnick does the same. I here the doorbell ring. That must be Johanna. Finnick goes to answer the door and Johanna's son comes running in.

  Johanna and the rest of her family are behind him and they all greet each other. I come to the door and say hello to them as well.

  " Hey Johanna," I say giving her a big hug.

  " Hi how are you doing," she asks me.

  " Im great!," I reply and we go to the kitchen. That's when Annie's son, Finn comes downstairs for the first time and immediately starts playing with Johanna's son, Conner.

  The adults come into the kitchen and just talk and catch up on things. Its been almost two years since we have done something like this so it's good to finally get back to these fun times.
