Alondra
“Alondra, your cousin, Rose is coming to stay with us.” My mother told me walking into my room.
“My cousin? I thought you were an only child?” I said looking confused.
“Yell well your Aunt and I weren’t the best of friends while growing up so we kept our relationship sacred for the sake of you and your cousin.”
I continued to get dressed to go out with my boyfriend, Xavier, everybody called him X for short. How can I have a damn cousin? After all these years of me being an only child I had a cousin that I could have been kickin’ it with. I hope she wasn’t a stuck up brat. Then I’ll have another person to get into fights with around this place besides my mother. I guess I’ll just have to wait and find out to see how this goes. Great! I thought.
“When is she coming? How old is she?” I questioned my mother.
“She’s supposed to come today. I talked to her social worker this morning.”
“Why is she coming to live with us? Where is her mother or father?”
“Her mother died recently and her father is nowhere to be found.”
“Oh.” I said with no sympathy. I couldn’t have any sympathy for someone I never knew even existed. I checked out how I looked in the mirror. I was 5’6. I loved my 36C breast, those are what I loved most about my body. I didn’t have much booty but my boyfriend can work with it well. My caramel skin color brought out my light brown eyes, and I had a beauty mark right above my luscious lips. My jet black hair hung just beneath my shoulders.
I had on a tight white and orange sweater dress that hugged my body, with my cream leg warmers and brown boots. It was freezing outside so I had to make sure I was warm and sexy at the same time. I smiled at myself and glossed my lips.
“She will be staying in the guest room right next to yours.” She told me.
“Well it isn’t a guest room anymore if she’s staying here.” I said sarcastically.
“You’re right. When she comes be nice, you know how you get, Alondra.”
I ignored her last comment. I didn’t feel like getting into it with my mother today. Lord knows she gets on my nerves half of the day already. I kicked her out of my room so I could call my boyfriend and see was he still coming to pick me up. I’m usually the one who keeps him waiting but he was an hour late and my patience was getting smaller by the minute. I called him and I got his voicemail. Shit! Where is his ass at? I thought to myself.
If my cousin comes I’m sure my mother is going to want me to take her with me. I had to hurry up and get the hell out of here. It wasn’t that I didn’t want to see her. It was just that I needed to spend some time with my boo. Maybe she’s cool people. I’ll give her a chance. I hope she isn’t ugly because I can’t hang around ugly people, which will ruin my reputation. I looked at my iPhone and saw “My Hubby” across my screen. I smiled.
“X, where are you?” I answered my phone.
“I’m sorry bae, I got caught up in some bullshit, I’ll be there in about five minutes.”
