Alondra
My mom was sitting on the couch with Rose’s social worker while I paced the floor back and forth. The way I constantly walked over the same spots you may have thought I was trying to burn a whole in the carpet. My mind was racing. I couldn’t believe Rose was pregnant and she disappeared out of nowhere. How could the hospital be so unorganized to let her out of their sight? And once again I was blaming myself for this incident. I turned towards my mother who suddenly got angry with the social worker.
“How the hell am I supposed to know where she is? Since she wants to be grown and leave then she can stay her ass out! I’m not watching after her little hot-ass anymore!” she pressed the end button on the phone and dashed out of my presence.
I hope she doesn’t mean that. I know she doesn’t mean that. I shook the thought out of my head of what my mother had just said. I sat down on my couch and took a look at my freshly done nails. I picked up my phone and dialed Rose’s number. I rang a couple of times then went to voicemail.
“Shit!” I screamed and threw my phone on the floor.
“Now is that any kind of way to treat a harmless phone?” Brendon said picking up my phone and handing it to me.
He scared the shit out of me. “How did you get in?” I folded my arms across my chest.
“I think y’all forgot to close the door, and don’t pout it makes you look all… sexy!” he kissed my lips and sat beside me.
“What am I going to do Brendon?” tears welled up in my eyes. I always asked Brendon what’s next in my life, knowing that he’ll always say the same thing.
“Ask your heart.” He said to me. What does that even supposed to mean? My heart can’t fucking talk! And I’m damn sure not about to attempt to ask it anything. If it was up to me I would rip my heart out of my chest and give it a brain like Google! I got up and started to pace the floor again. I called Rose a few more times until I was fed up with going to her voicemail.
I grabbed my coat. “Let’s go.”
“Where are we going?” Brendon asked.
“We’re going after Rose.” We headed to his car.
“How are we going to do that when we don’t know where she is?”
“You ever heard of this word called ‘search’? Yeah that’s what we’re going to do.”
“Yeah okay, smartass!” he pulled off and we went on a search for my cousin.
I think we might have searched every part of New York. It was well into the next day about three in the afternoon. I couldn’t understand where this girl could be. I started to panic for a while. My phone was blowing up with calls. I got calls from Xavier, my mother, Jaden, and even Rose’s social worker. I ignored all calls and text messages. I didn’t know what to say to them or tell them. So I decided to avoid them at all costs.
We were well into New Jersey before we knew it. I couldn’t believe I was out on a search for someone who doesn’t want to be found. Me, Alondra, the girl who didn’t care about anybody but herself! I started to get frustrated and stressed over this situation. Brendon and I stopped to the nearest hotel to crash. We checked in and got settled into our room. I quickly ordered room service to put something, anything on my stomach before I pass out. I looked around at the room we were in and took notice of everything. My eyes reached Brendon and he was stripped down in his basketball shorts. I laid down on the bed trying to gather my thoughts and my next move. Brendon opened the door for our food and I sat right back up.
He sat next to me and told me to dig in. “Seriously Alondra, do you think she would be all the way in Jersey? I mean, she doesn’t have a car and she’s broke. You can’t get too far without that.”
I stuffed a fry into my mouth and shrugged my shoulders. “She can, she’s not dumb ya know.”
I hurried to finish my food and closed my eyes. I needed this sleep and I needed it bad.
Rose was sitting in a small space balled up in a corner with a bottle of liquor. She smiled at me at offered me some. I took the bottle and smashed it against her head. She held her head where blood was leaking from it. She gave me an evil grin and pointed an all-black gun towards me. Her eyes suddenly turned black and her demeanor gave me a shiver to my spin.
“Not so tough now huh?” rose laughed and evil laugh. “You did this to me Alondra! You made me this way! You Alondra, not me, not Rose! Why couldn’t you just leave me alone? You had to change me for the worst! I hate you, you’re a sick bitch!” I shook my head no and she pulled the trigger.
I jumped up from the nightmare and felt all over my sweaty body. Fuck! That was some scary shit. I turned towards Brendon who was passed out next to me.
Where R U cousin? I need you LL
I sent the message to Rose and fell back asleep.
