Aaron's POV
Ana then shot some reddish blue looking magic at me. I had never seen it before so I only stood there like an idiot instead of moving out of the way. So Mari canceled it out instead. She shot this amazing yet mysterious dark purple magic I'd never seen before. Even Loren looked dumbfounded. I noticed her cheeks started to flush a deep red so she started to scold Ana instead. Great.
"Ana! You do not try to kill your cousin!" I cringed at the word cousin since I was awfully new to the term I was called.
"I wasn't trying to kill him, just testing his magical abilities, that's all." She replied ignorantly.
"Ha! Like I'm gonna believe that, Jerk face." She stuck her tongue out at her which made me laugh a bit.
"Oh shush, I was only using an illusion to make some boring water magic look interesting, for goodness sake sis, calm down!" She looked down at Mari. They were sisters, huh.
Mari rolled her eyes, and crossed her arms against her chest. "Geez Ana, just relax, no need to tower 2 inches over me."
"Hey, I don't mean to interrupt your argu-" I cut myself off, "heated discussion, but I would like to know about what happened a couple seconds earlier." I vaguely mentioned her purple magic.
"What happened a couple seconds earlier?" Oh, Mari was not playing dumb with me.
"You know, your, ahem, purple magic when I have freaking boring fire elements, and werewolf blood." I pointed out.
"And I have freaking boring water magic." Ana added using my version of words.
"And I'm bluntly a human. No magic in me." Loren said which made everyone look at him. He just shrugged.
"Later, we will deal with that." Mari told him, "back to this though." She turned to look back at me.
"Oh, and I'm simply and earth elements!" Her father said a little too excitedly.
"Okay?" Mari said sarcastically.
"What I'm saying is that I've never, and I mean never have saw anyone with purple magic like yours." I said emphasizing on 'anyone'.
Mari sighed then started to explain. "It's a curse, but it's more like a blessing I guess. A person who is born into royalty has a chance of getting this blessing-curse thing. But only one person gets it every century, so that no two people have it. And guess who was born into royalty and got it?" I would've interrupted her about this 'royalty' thing, but I chose otherwise. I'll discuss that later.
"Yeah, me. This purple magic as you call it, is actually called, Mariposa's Gift. There was a queen named Mariposa and she had this magic. So she named it that for none other than the reason of being her arrogant self, but that's beside the point. The point is this purple magic, it consists of all of the four elements. Earth." She said, glancing over to her father.
"Water." She said, looking at her sister.
"Fire." She said glancing at me.
"And Air." She said looking down, so no one could see her face. I wondered what she was thinking of. But I didn't want to intrude.
"And this person who has this magic is the core to it all, the key you could say. And it so happens that this person is me." She said looking up. Hurt was embedded in her eyes, and everyone else didn't notice. If they did, they didn't say anything.
After a while of small talk, I saw Mari leave, out of the corner of my eye. I ended my little small talk within our group and excused myself. The whole time, Mari was standing in the corner. She looked distant and closed off. Probably from earlier. When someone came up to her, she would nod and just agree to what ever they were saying just to be left alone.
I walked out in the hall to see Mari sitting next to the door, knees to her chest and her head buried in her hands. I knelt down and sat beside her. So quietly, I didn't think she noticed, but what she did next said otherwise.
She put her head on my shoulder. I stiffened. I still haven't gotten over loving her. I'm just hoping the love will change into a sibling sort of love.
I felt a tear fall on top of my arm. She was crying. I turned, so that I was facing her. I held her face and forced her to look at me. I could sense what was swirling in those deep violet eyes. Hurt, love, pain, and regret. They changed colors again. From that vibrant bright purple to this deep violet color that was unrecognizable.
"Look, Mari. I don't know what's making you feel what you're feeling. I want to understand, but if you don't want to tell me, you don't have to, I understand, it's okay." I whispered, panic and worry clearly showing in my eyes. It was probably a bad idea to let down my guard, but I had to know. I had to know if she was okay. I pulled her into a hug, her head resting on my shoulder while I stroked her soft hair.
"E-earlier," she slowly stuttered, trying to calm her tears, "I said element A-Air. You noticed the emotions in my eyes." She whispered.
"Yes," I barely said trying to give her confirmation.
"Everyone in the-the room had each element, except a-air." She struggled on the word air. I hugged her tighter.
"Was it-" I trailed off. I didn't want to assume, but I had a thought on who it was.
"My mother?" She whispered, her voice cracking. I guess that was a touchy subject.
"Yeah." Was all she told me before standing up and walking in front of the door. Before she opened it, I saw her take a big breath and put on a fake smile.
"You saw regret." She caught me by surprise. I looked at her. Her eyes closed, her hand millimeters away from the door knob.
"I had another brother. His name was Jerald. We were closer than anyone in my family. He wasn't killed by the ritual. Being the dangerous kid I was, I ran out in the woods. He followed me being the caring older brother he was. It was my fault. Because I ran right into your brother." She opened the door, and took a step inside.
Then she left me out alone in the hall, letting me process this information by myself.
