It was now time for the first Friendship Games event, the academic decathlon.

"Welcome to the first event, the academic decathlon!" Cadence said. "You'll be scored on Home Ec, Chemistry, and everything in between. But remember, only the six students with the most points will move on to event number two. Good luck!"

And with that, the first event began

And with that, the first event began.

First was the Chemistry portion. The Wondercolts did pretty good, but the Shadowbolts did better, so they won that part.

Next was the Home Ec portion. The Shadowbolts did pretty well. A couple of teammates even made a really large Shadowbolts-themed cake, which would've won, if not for Pinkie Pie's Mona Lisa cake, which wowed the judges. Needless to say, Canterlot High won at Home Ec.

Afterwards was the Wood Shop portion. The Wondercolts once again did pretty good, expect for a couple teammates who build a really unstable birdhouse. The Shadowbolts, however, were excellent. One pair of teammates, Sugarcoat and Indigo Zap, even made a two-story birdhouse, which earned the Shadowbolts a win.

Towards the end was the spelling bee portion, but that was only between the six students with the most points on each team

Towards the end was the spelling bee portion, but that was only between the six students with the most points on each team.

Rainbow Dash went up first, confident that she would spell whatever word she got correctly. She was asked to spell hippopotamus, and she unfortunately spelled it wrong, eliminating her.

Lemon Zest went up next and was asked to spell muchousenism. She spelled it wrong and was eliminated.

Applejack then went next, followed by Sugarcoat, Fluttershy, Sunny Flare, Rarity, Indigo Zap, and Twilight.

Soon, everyone expect Twilight and Sunset were eliminated. To decide who would win the academic decathlon, both girls were asked to solve a complex mathematical equation given to them on a chalkboard. Whoever solved it correctly won the first event for their team.

Twilight wasn't into competing at all, and couldn't wait for the Friendship Games to be over

Twilight wasn't into competing at all, and couldn't wait for the Friendship Games to be over. Sunset shared a similar feeling, but she also wanted to know what Twilight had done to the portal to Equestria. She vowed to find out before the Friendship Games were over.

Both girls then began to work on the math problem given to them. It took some time, but eventually, both of them solved it. However, they got different answers. Sunset got x=30, and Twilight got x=20. Cinch looked at both of the girls' answers and pointed to Sunset.

"Incorrect!" she exclaimed. Sunset sighed, upset that she had let her team down.

"That means the winner of the Friendship Games first event is Twilight Sparkle and Crystal Prep!" Luna announced

"That means the winner of the Friendship Games first event is Twilight Sparkle and Crystal Prep!" Luna announced.

Twilight beamed, happy that she had won the first event for her team, but stopped beaming when her fellow classmates didn't show any excitement.

Meanwhile, Sunset's friends hugged and congratulated her.

"But we didn't win!" Sunset exclaimed, surprised that her friends seemed so happy despite their loss.

"That was as close to winning as Canterlot High's ever been," Applejack said.

The six students that would be moving on to the second event were announced, and the Rainbooms all cheered because every single one of them had made it.

Twilight, Sour Sweet, Indigo Zap, Sunny Flare, Sugarcoat, and Lemon Zest were the six Shadowbolts competitors to make it to the second event

Twilight, Sour Sweet, Indigo Zap, Sunny Flare, Sugarcoat, and Lemon Zest were the six Shadowbolts competitors to make it to the second event. However, unlike the Rainbooms, they showed no excitement.

Twilight looked over at the cheering Rainbooms and sighed. She then walked off the stage with the rest of her teammates.

"Congratulations, you were really great," Flash said to Twilight.

"I'm sorry, excuse me," Twilight responded, not paying much attention to him. She was more focused on some strange readings her device was picking up.

"Okay then," Flash said glumly as Twilight walked away. He sighed.
